Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

No breaks... only a lunch break?!?!??!!!

Has anyone been told that break are no longer given? I was told this weekend by the head cashier and MOD that there are no more breaks. I know each State is different but anyone in Georgia heard of this?! This is just crazy!

Yes, there is pressure to fake time punches to avoid meal break violations and to totally skip 15 mintmute breaks. It's not just an isolated store here and there.

Well when I’m told no more breaks for our Stocking Team, I will say goodbye to Lowe’s. No heads up, just out the door.

California law does require UNINTERRUPTED breaks.

Employers in California can't require workers to remain on duty or "on call" during their rest breaks, according to the California Supreme Court.

"During required rest periods, employers must relieve their employees of all duties and relinquish any control over how employees spend their break time," the state high court said in a Dec. 22, 2016, opinion.

In light of this ruling, employers shouldn't require or suggest that employees carry company pagers, phones or other communication devices during their rest breaks, said Barbara Harris Chiang, an attorney with Kaufman Dolowich & Voluck in San Francisco.

Actually there is no federal law mandating meal periods either. Some state laws require companies to provide breaks and meals for employees, some don't. However, Lowe's policy mandates both breaks and meals for employees. Any manager not providing employees with breaks is violating corporate policy, and in many states is violating the law.

Some states do require a company to give breaks, Pennsylvania for example. If you work an 8 hour shift, law requires two(2) 15 minute and one 1 hour Lunch/Dinner break.1

Breaks are not required by law except for those employees under 18. Since Lowe's doesn't hire anyone under no required breaks. An unpaid meal period is required, usually at the mid point of a shift, although these can be scheduled at the discretion of the employer.

I've worked 5 years at a Lowe's that doesn't allow breaks except for the required meals. There are those that abuse the system and are always in the break room
