If Honeywell really wants to reduce the number of legacy long term, (Older) employees, then they should offer an incentive like Ford, GM, Verizon and other have.
Older workers are usually the ones covered by one of the 13 legacy pension plans from acquisitions
Offer to add 3 years to age of employee and spouse, and add 3 years of service to the calculation.
Many other companies have done it, with a limit, for first 10,000 employees for example to reduce risk of everyone leaving (who has a pension)
If you offered me 3 years to the age calculations and 3 years of service I would depart today without a severance package. You could even pick my last day, and I would cancel all vacation between now and exit date (as long as it's this year)
If you really want to make big changes, play ball like the big boys (GM, Ford, Verizon, etc)
Hope the HR people that are frequently here take this one to management today!!
