Verizon Management Awards for Years of Service Discontinued

I don't think this has been posted here or at least not for a while?

One thing to me that really shows how little Verizon now appreciates management employees that have been around for a long time is that they discontinued the gifts/awards they use to give such as at the 5, 10,15, etc. year mark. They even had award ceremonies when employees hit like 25 or 30 years of service.

Whether it was intentional where Verizon was trying convey they no longer wanted long term employees or was the result of a bean counter saving a few cents upper management has sure found a way to convey a message. Sadly in the scheme of things I doubt the dollar savings of the awards were that much relatively.

I got a plexiglass plaque for my 15th anniversary. It was left on my desk in a shipping envelope.

Following my 23rd year, many with leading performance ratings, I received no acknowledgement, other than a RIF 1-month later! Pay and benefits were good, but I was always a hard worker with solid internal and external client relationships. None of it mattered in the end. VZ is a toxic environment and does NOT value tenured, knowledgeable employees. Quite the opposite, you are a high paid expense target.

Life is much better post VZ working for another Top 50 company, making more $$ with senior leadership with true passion, integrity and character.

I was berated and belittled by an RM manager at VZ for refusing overtime in the same day I accepted my 5-year service anniversary award and gift, which was a ring. I wound up punching a wall for it! I harbored that inside of me for a year then I got angry as I was speeding down the highway and yanked my ring off my finger and threw it out of the car window! Then three years later, out of anger and impulse, I cut up my service my 5-year service anniversary certificate in front of my wife and it brought her to tears! To commemorate it all, I blew off and sabotaged every other good thing awarded to my after that, including my 10-year service anniversary award and gift! When I got the catalog for my 10-year gifts, I called the number on there and told them to take my name off the list but they referred me to the supervisor and I left a voicemail with her. She called back and told me that I have to accept them NOW. My wife got the message on out answering machine and it brought her to tears. She ordered me to accept the award and pick out any gift I wanted, but told her NO-I DID NOT WANT ANY OF IT! Then she told me if I was gonna be an a– about it, what is there to say she couldn't have any of the gifts? So she picked what she wanted that was entitled to me for working at VZ for 10 years, which was a radio. It came two days later and I handed it to her and said MERRY CHRISTMAS, then she cried and said it was my loss-then she smacked and scratched me. Then when I got the certificate and 24K gold 10-year lapel pin from my supervisors, I took the out of the portfolio, threw the portfolio away, tore up the certificate, and secretly gave the lapel pin to the same supervisor who yelled at me for refusing overtime the same day I accepted my 5-year award and gift. Then I continued to secretly give that supervisor who yelled at me all other gifts I earned there at VZ after that because I wanted to reward her for running me to the ground! I was entitle to NOTHING because overall, I WAS WRONG!

Keep the corporate trinkage. I bet they tax you on the value over 25.00 anyway.

My 25th Anniversary award was the target on my back and a “reorg” to demote me. This company is evil. Millennials are smart to build resume and move on.

Well, it also came with pension, 401k, benefits, bonuses, and no-layoff protection, so there is that.

I just had 25 years in wireless and I got a lovely pre stamped thank you card from the VP( or admin) isn't that fantastic! I made enough jokes about it that my boss also said I am allowed to take you to lunch and expense it. That sounded more like a punishment than a gift, having lunch with the boss.

A cooler for 35 years of union dues. Nice! Well done sir!

If I am not retired after working 25 years, put me out of my misery.

I got a GO PRO camera for 30; my wife got a Yeti cooler for 35.

But we are both union wireline associates.

For 25 years at MCI, I was given a high end leather briefcase. The award at 30 years was going to be a set of leather luggage, but then Verizon came along. At 30 years, instead of luggage, I got emailed a Power Point slide that said "Congratulations on 30 years of service!". I was encouraged to "Print and post in your workspace", which under Verizon had also been downgraded from an office to a cube. Delete!

I got my last service anniversary gift for 25 years and that was in 2005. It was stopped right after that. Along with getting a letter for not being out for 5 years. I think they really wanted to drive home just how valued you are as an employee.

I'll bet that the person who cancelled service awards was giving an award for saving money

For 20 year lifers, I thought they were going to pass out targets so you can put it on your back.

I was in wireless for 18. Never got anything for longevity. I don't think I ever saw anyone getting any formal recognition either. I think it's all on the local management, the immediate manager or director to make something happen.
