Thread regarding IBM layoffs

IBM is transforming to cloud

Like it or not, if you are old within IBM you are viewed as non-essential. HW is being abandoned at an expedited pace. Expect Storage to be gone by June. Scale out power soon there after. Outsourcing will follow, with TSS associated HW also going. IBM will keep Enterprise HW and a skeleton crew to operate it. Please note IBM already has to hire mainframe and enterprise power system temps to keep their cloud offerings running. How’s that for planning? Dump the heads and realize you can’t run your strategic hybrid cloud offerings. No worries LINUX and gen X will save you. IBM managers manage to how they get paid, not to what the company needs. Enjoy the blue washing

The divestiture announcement for the marketing c-ap and all those people is a big thinly veiled lay-off to reduce costs ...it’s not a sale. The “newco” will not be taking on all those employees from the business...especially all the sales organization. Why? Because day 1 of the newco they won’t even have a company name or any business cards. This thing is a cost cutting scheme dressed up as a divestiture. 400 or so people off the books and low margin business jettisoned. IBM keeps the sales contracts and the revenue without all the costs. Look for more like this to follow as IBM slims down their entire software offerings & portfolio. All that’s left of WCE is the supply chain SW (old sterling) ...and that team is shrugging daily.

If you don't sign the document you are done the day of the notice if you are in an "At Will" state that doesn't require 90 days for large shutdowns and layoffs.

Who in their right mind would buy the bloated GBS?

Bain does not have enough lipstick to sell that hog.

Zero pay outs for layoffs? That would not surprise me one bit.

Nothing would surprise me although thankfully in the UK and some EU regions, employees are protected by a legal minimum redundancy payout.

Storage? Didn't you mean to say "DASD"? Also, no mention of Bain buying GBS? Or the "Fortune 500 strategy" whatever the hell that is?
