Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Small format store openings announced

Thought everyone could use some good news, in the wake of the life insurance situation as well as some fool posting about total liquidation a couple days ago

Small store works if you close all the mall stores and turn the wrk force.

No full time and few benefits .

So low overhead and the same floor plan in every location , simplifying the process of up fitting displays and layout.

Those two items alone , killed off any chance of profit in the big stores and helped to bleed them dry , even during good times .

The punchline is that these will be the only three stores opened. The mall stores and Kmarts will all be transformed into real estate.

Look at how many of the Sears Hometowns are closing and you will see how well this works.

And NOTHING for the existing store base of ragged, run-down, filthy Sears and Kmart stores. Makes perfect sense.

@lkb

Alaska is unserved in a lot of things. There could be demand for stuff like snow removal equipment and hand tools.

Eddie is going to try this again? He used the same format in our Sears store and we, along with every other Sears store he tried this with, closed. How often do people buy new appliances and lawn and garden items? Even the Sears executives who came to our store admitted this format failed and was not a viable solution. Also, it takes almost no employees other than salespeople to be employed in the store so if you are store support start looking for another job right away. Get ready for more store closures.

Pretty sure this is more like bad news because I'm certain that smaller stores = smaller staff so that means more jobs being cut. Even then, this isn't going to save them.

Its honestly there best shot. Their softlines are a joke, These are in isolated backwater markets though, so I am guessing the goal is to get the customers that Amazon does not want.

Small format store is absolute perfect fit for SMALL amount of customers anticipated - dont want to overwhelm the customer with too many useless product choices
