From detnews nowhere does it say empower the workers it is all about leadership empowerment

—————-

Ford North America communications director, said in a statement. "Our redesign will reduce bureaucracy and empower our leaders, enabling us to focus on the most value-added work and ensure we have the right cost structure around the world. This work has resulted in some separations of salaried employees and the reassignment of others."

Senior executives have said Ford is looking to flatten the organization by removing layers of management, reducing costs and giving managers more authority to make decisions while favoring lean operations and deciding which skills are needed now and for the future.

Yes the senior leadership team should of kept their mouths shut and rearranged the upper leadership deck chairs to their liking without any fanfare. Let’s be honest the LL6 and below rarely notice who is above them unless they are climbing upwards. LL5 crowd rarely have any impact on the day to day operations and typically do not know how to set direction.

Then once they had the leadership team Hackett wanted, and the broad brush priorities established they should of engaged the LL6 both supervisory and tech spec to determine how to make that happen. Then and only then announce reductions needed, allow volunteers, then announce the date and numbers for involuntary

I say this as an LL6 who has for 14 years created the strategy doc that 5 different LL5 have presented as their own strategy. In my 14 years as an LL6 I have had no LL5 who cared to understand what my team or any of my coworkers teams did. I also created my upwardly mobile coworker LL6s strategy for them. Yes I freely admit that many LL6 are only milking their positions until retirement. Yes I freely admit that many LL6 are spending all their time clawing their way upward. I also realize that like protects like so LL5 will prioritize keeping those two categories of LL6.

When you look at the layoffs in this light you understand the slow gradual layoffs. It is for the protection of the LL5+ leadership team, not the workers or the company.

We should have done this like GM did it - one week, boom, and things are done.

For whatever reason we have to overcomplicate things - this is killing morale and people are anxious.

I am LL6 in IT

If management was truthful and forthcoming with details people wouldn’t come to sites like this looking for info. Everyone wants to know am I safe. That is not knowable until you get the tap or not. Then it will start all over again at a later date. Prepare yourself and then go out and enjoy the weekend.

What is “large”? 500? 5000? Stop trying to freak people out if you aren’t gonna give specifics.
