Thread regarding Ford layoffs

What’s the deal with these gradual layoffs?

I can maybe understand why they don’t want to be up-front with the workers ( not that I approve that manner) but why make it a death by a thousand cuts and have us live in uncertainty throughout the year? I don’t see any point in this. Wouldn’t it benefit the company if they reached the headcount that they want in this so-called restructure more quickly? I honestly don’t get what’s the deal with that.

Historically Ford has filed WARN for blue collar unionized jobs but not white collar.

The bean counters are great at threading the needle.

Mi WARN site gets updated regularly...most recent one from FCA on 4/1/19:

https://www.michigan.gov/wda/0,5303,7-304-64178_64179---,00.html

Ford submitted one for FRAP on 2/1, so they do indeed file these.

BUT, they aren’t offering a 60 day severance to everyone. 5 years or less only gets 30 days. So, they should have to file WARN

WARN filings are not reliable at all. An employer can offer a 60 day severance and tell their employees not to come to work starting tomorrow and they wouldn't be required to file a WARN notice.

Also the Michigan WARN website can take up to a month to update, so if there is a WARN is filed in April you might not even see it posted on the website until May.

Read the fine print on WARN. You sign doc to get your severance package which includes > 60 day WARN requirements and typical NDA wording. This allows company to avoid WARN filing. Go look through the historical WARN doc do you see ones for the prior significant white colllar layoffs? http://milmi.org/warn

In this regard GM behaves more ethically than Ford

If layoffs are this week, it would be less than 500 in R&E, since a WARN hasn’t been filed

Maybe to give time for mid-career people time to look for other jobs? If enough go, could be fewer invol layoffs.

Most incomprehensible actions stem from incompetence.

Many of my coworkers have cooked up all these conspiracy type theories to explain managements actions or inactions. Yeah of course people want to be able to explain things, but having sat through meetings with many of the leaders, my coworkers are giving them way too much credit. The leaders simply do not know what they are doing. Hackett can’t acknowledge that he has an inept leadership team, so they will claim that they entrusted the reDesign to an outside consulting firm.

Someone asked at dept meeting why contractors weren’t going first. The answer was that this lay-off was about which functions were needed, not what type of resource was doing them. The next question was well, why wouldn’t you release contractor and then move the employee to that function. There was no answer just some shrugging.

My LL5 is a tool so I can tell you that anyone who isn’t in the arse kissing club will most certainly be on his hit list. Other LL5 might do what is right for the company not what is good for their ego.

Just do your job... be ready to be fired at any moment... the ceo priority is to not shake the boat too much during this transition
