Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Fine Jewelry / Complex / Stock.

This whole Jewelry strategy has turned into a joke. The department is completely over staffed for a commissioned department and you have non commission leads selling too. You cant make money. Having to ring 150,000 to get more than 2% is crazy, especially when you ring more fashion Jewelry than anything and only get commission on designer brands when most are buying Charter and INC.

We do not have enough newness in fine Jewelry to support the constant pre sales. Call my client for what? They didn't see anything they like the last 3 times and we haven't gotten anything new.

We look at the diamond sale book and we do not have 70% of the iteams shown. Then you look online and their are stores sitting on 5 pieces of one item and the majority of stores have zero and are back stocking pearls and hollow gold earrings.

Only Herald Sq is going to sell 5 signature diamond studs in a week before they could be replenished.

Wow! Reading all the comments to this Jewelry Complex post makes me glad to know our store is not the only one that is functioning like this....

or should I say not functioning :(

Sad that Macy’s is hurting itself and they can’t even see what is unfolding right before our eyes.

Employees can see it, why can’t “they” see it.

Sad, just sad.

Worry No More is useless anymore. A three page cant size ring list and sometimes they will not size a ring that is not on the list and tell you to have the customers take it to a local jeweler!!

Why do we charge to size Levian ? No one else does.

Rember when the complex started.

They talked about elevated service = over staffing.

They talked about better stock = more of the same

Dedicated advertising = None.

So true. If we have 10 fine Jewelry sells that day its split between 4 associates and lead

unless you have been in the department for 20 years, never leave the bay and are a bully, their is no money in FJ.

The lead says... "I just had to ring that sale, ive worked with her for years. How about...."Im no longer a sales person, im going to introduce you to Ted...Ill still be here if you need help deciding" Then swing back to assist if needed and celebrate the sell !!!

This is so true. We have 6 full time fine jewelry associates. We used to have 7. We also have an assistant who sells with no commission. We have no one on the fashion side, except 2 part time support staff who put out stock, do markdowns etc. when I come in some nights I clean up all the c-ap, pick last act garbage off the floor, and help do the counts for 38 cases of jewelry. Everyone fights each other for sales. If someone walks in and they say hi, it becomes their customer! I left something on hold for a customer last night, but because I am not there today someone will ring it in their own number. So over it all,
