Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Janitorial and Housekeeping duties.

How many other stores are being told that since the cleaning company didn't renew their contract after Sears bankruptcy that the employees have to do the janitor and housekeeping duties in their store?

@1brk. In our Sears store they are not giving more hours to clean the toilets and everything else. They are included in the employees regular hours. Cleaning toilets is obviously more important than sales. Typical Sears. Tasks are more important than sales.

We are doing this at my store. The good news is that the bathrooms are generally not all that bad because we are always slow and then there's the fact that our mall entrance is closed off from the rest of the mall, so it takes effort for people who wouldn't otherwise be in a Sears to get access to our facilities. They have to walk out of the mall exit nearest us, go outside and walk and around to Sears.

It’s not beneath me... If they want to give me additional hours, I’ll be glad to clean the toilets or whatever they want.

Cleaning of restrooms by associates seems like it has the potential to violate the companies blood Bourne pathogens policy.

@cbp. Same at our store. I hope you said NO like I did. They did find some employees who can't say no.

I'm in a southern California Sears store and they are now having employees scheduled to come in early and do all the cleaning and janitorial work. That includes mopping the floors, emptying the trash, and cleaning the bathrooms. We're supposed to check the restrooms throughout the day and clean them. They say it is only temporary till June or July but at the same time Sears is posting job openings for Janitorial/Housekeeping SST openings that are not temporary. How low will this "new" Sears stoop to?

I’m at a sears store and we got a new cleaning company last month. They do a great job. The last company didn’t do anything.
