Thread regarding Bank of America layoffs

It's all about getting rid of older workers

once you hit your late 40's/early 50's, you will have a target on your back if you have been there for a long time. they will replace you with a younger worker at half your salary. they have a very systematic format for age discrimination to get rid of older workers. they can do this by raising your quota, micro-managing you to death, changing your direct supervisor to someone less qualified, bogus performance reviews, ostracism, reducing your incentive compensation, etc. it's all about getting rid of older workers. so, no, there is no long-term future at this bank, at least as it stands right now.

Great and truthful post @YxBvvhI-2kgi . Couldn't agree more.

Very true. Greedy corporate managers loves using cheap fresh grad near minimum wage as replacement. Experience skills & merits no longer matter when you are a grunt: you need to learn cronyism & nepotism skills to keep big corp jobs now, so brush up on those a---kissing & boot licking skills!

In fact, 30s are the new 40s, even age 30s workers will easily get fired or laid off and get replaced when cheaper fresh grad. The cycle disposable slaves continues.

This is speaking from actual firsthand experiences with tons of frequent layoffs recently.

Exactly @cxvy , a meritocracy is where your contribution matters to the value of the company and your efforts have a positive effect on the operations. Here those issues are really unimportant it only matters that you either did or did not get the coffee for your boss last Friday and that Friday in February and this is a huge performance issue that just cannot be ignored.

Automate the f**k out of the whole bank, no one will have a job, except the automators...what happens when that breaks...automation of the automation?

to play the game, you need to be the one that brings in the coffee from starbucks for your boss every morning, rounds of donuts and bagels for your colleagues every week. that will get you farther ahead in your career at BOA than your merit, profitability, work ethic, education, or experience. stop thinking this is a meritocracy.

How do they get rid of older workers? Ops2020 -- fundamentally redesign the entire backoffice process and then force everyone to apply for positions in the new org. Watch what happens....it's coming!

Like most workers who have been personal witness to this monstrosity, I told the bank to go fly a kite. Greed, incompetence. Now I can sit gleefully from the sidelines as the bank wobbles during the next recession. The fortress is more like a woodshed. The bigger they are, the harder they fall.

@1dfw - age discrimination and blatant cronyism are actually real phenomenons documented and attested by many bank employees. it's ingrained in the culture of senior and middle management, and HR turns a blind eye. the practice is widespread.

Oh the arrogance of youth. Many of us would love to see technological advances. We’ve sat and watched the bank make more and more technological excuses than we care to count. Hope you enjoy all those consent orders when we are gone...because none of you will have the history to avoid the mistakes of the past.

it's a moot point. the bank systematically targets older workers to be replaced by younger workers for cost savings reasons, not replacing older workers with robots or artificial intelligence.

it's all about the top brass cutting costs for a bigger paycheck at our expense.
