Thread regarding CVS layoffs

I don't get it

I thought it was just the managers in my district that have been complaining. But it seems like a lot of people are complaining. I don't know if it's just my store that I have been lucky in. I have been a Store Manager for about a year now and I find that it is not that hard to keep up with daily tasks. I'll admit might not be that thorough as I could be with CFR but I feel that I have a strong crew and we all work very hard that we are never behind on planograms and I rarely work more than 50 hours a week. Only time I worked 70+ was to get ready for inventory. Just wondering why a lot of Store Managers are having trouble keeping up. My DL has been in my store numerous times and always says it looks great, and she doesn't ever worry about me. So clearly I am doing something right.

Just wait. They will convince you to take another store because you have “potential.” If you don’t they will write you off as unmotivated and will give you less support as they see you as a dead end and that anyone could run your store. If you accept the transition you will find yourself in a store that is more harder and reality will hit you and you will stumble and be back here posting like most as you will have officially had your talent ruined. This is a company that DESTROYS talent and breeds mediocrity.

I'm in New England doing 55k a week on 230hrs. Everything gets done and I never work more than 45hrs even during inventory. Just do your job. It's not that hard.

Yep. In New England I ran a store that had 240 hours. In the middle of a year, transferred to SC. Store was same FS volume (within $1000 a week), same store open and close times and did more in RX by about 2000 scripts a week. 50 hours a week less. Explain that

So if you guys don’t like the workload stop b--ching and go find another job. Simple as that. The job itself is not hard. Doing planos and stocking shelves. Keeping the store clean and helping customers. Maybe instead of spending so much time complaining to managers in nearby stores you should be spending time cleaning up the sales floor instead. I have managers call me to complain all the time. I usually tell them I gotta go cause I’m busy running a store. Don’t have time for any negativity. If more managers did there jobs there wouldn’t be a problem. Instead they’re being lazy just sitting in the office.

Yes, I am sorry I should have given some metrics. My store does roughly about $50,000 a week and my average weekly demand is around 230 a week. Sometimes a little less and sometimes a little more. When I took over the store it wasn't making budget and MCE was below target. The store was not stocked well either which factors in sales. Now I am beating budget almost weekly and my scores for MCC are above target. I have talked to managers with similar volume stores than me and most of them seem to have the same amount of hours if not a little more than I do. But their customer counts are higher which makes sense as to why they might have more hours. And I'm not saying I am an amazing manager but it usually is just me and a cashier and I am always constantly running around the store to make sure that things get done on time. I may have lost almost 30 pounds because of this. But at the end of the day, it feels good going home seeing as I have accomplished a lot with so little help. And it helps that my supervisors are just as efficient as I am. So I think at the end of the day having the right people in place makes a difference. And yes I am in the New England market. Didn't know that New England stores get more hours then the rest of the country.

IM in a store with only 1 hour more payroll than several in my dist that do about half the sales I do .

That's when you shake your head and just struggle .

I make 40k a week with a 200 hrs budget. We have to help in pharmacy cause their hours have been cut back by more than 40. Some districts get more hours than others. Example if you are in the New England stores you get way more payroll, if your in the south you get Bare minimal. Than you get a DL who is Heartless and has no empathy. Than there’s some DL who know what you go through and won’t make your life miserable. I won’t even talk about the politics that they play. If they like you, you will get away with everything if not they will

Harass you about dust on your Shelves!!!

If you are doing well, it is only a matter of time. They will cut your hours, raise your metrics, etc. After working as a manager for years, doing well, and always being cut or being told to do better on less you stop meeting metrics. Not by choice but because you simply can’t. So, you fail and by the time you are replaced they have lowered the standards for the store again. This the new manager does well until the cycle repeats.

All stores are not the same. A well trained staff is important, but eithout specifics to your market or specifically where your store is, stockroom, volume, competition near you or the age of your store, I wouldn't put you above the rest just after a year being a manager. You haven't even identified any metrics and how your store has performed. Your success will not follow so easily to another store so quickly either. Not trying to bash or put you down but you clearly don't seem to get it as your topic title suggests

Same here! The job isn't hard if you actually work at a decent pace and dont spend hours in the office complaining to other managers over the phone.
