Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Wireline will still be there for a while, but that shouldn't be too comforting fort the people working there.

Read the threads on this board about the future of wireline and I have to agree with the people claiming that this part of the company is not in any immediate danger of being dismantled. However, that shouldn't be a fact that shout comfort the wireline employees. Think that the process of thinking more and more of the headcount at wireline is just beginning and that the process will intensify as it becomes less important in the company structure. Good luck to you all.

Wireline dying a slow death . VZ will not need as many field techs to stand around and do nothing .

Pretty sure it’s you that needs to get a grasp. Sure, Vz’s fiber network is robust and long reaching, but there are plenty of other competitors out there selling the same exact services over their own fiber network. They are doing it cheaper and more efficient than Vz could ever hope, and once they have their fiber in an area they quickly start picking off customers. Duct and pole space rental won’t keep this bloated machine running very far into the future.

"Near monopoly on this market"....Keep drinking the VZ kool aid...5G offers very little the average consumer is willing to pay for.

Please try to get a grasp on technology, wireline is probably Verizon’s most valuable asset. Entire cities will require an enormous amount of bandwidth that wireless quite frankly doesn't have the capacity to handle. Verizon is investing in the future while some of the people posting in this boards seems to be only concerned with yesterday and today. Every car, every refrigerator, every television will require bandwidth to operate. you people don’t understand that Verizon has a near monopoly on this market.

Unless we have some FIOS size build like 2004- 2012 for 5G , the wireline side of Verizon is completely over staffed from top to bottom . Look for some form of force reduction for union personnel . The revenue is just not there anymore for wireline . 5G is boarderline corperate fraud , may be years before this tech is deployed in any meaningful way . All the while wireline revenue and union membership continues to decline .

Exactly why an EISP is most likely coming this year or next. Slow garages, and with the 2023 contract being 4 years away, pay the 30+ year employees to leave now. Only the uneducated would remain who really are too lazy or dumb to do anything else.

Makes sense to me, rid the employees who have pensions and 5 weeks vac., esp. now that there are contractors all in our central offices, doing 5G installs, doing flag work now along with buried work and everything else it seems..

2023 is a pivotal date. The company would never approach the unions for a 5yr extension for the good of the company. Be prepared. Be ready.

How many more years left? Maybe one more contract after 2023.
