Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

We have no real cloud technology, data centers or architects (anymore)

I recall we "pivoted to cloud" about 4 years ago and tried to force customers off onprem. It was so unsuccessful that we gave cloud credits and started shady financial cover ups to pretend we had customers buying cloud. I don't see this approach being different, just rename the same old thing with a new marketing twist. We have no real cloud technology, data centers or architects (anymore), when DJ got rid of all the Oracle engineers and replaced them with the boys from some junior high science class - we now have nothing close to expertise or strategy for cloud. Customers have no confidence in what we market as cloud technology and we're not even considered a player in the top 10 cloud companies.

Found thi on another thread as a reply by @Z01hMqV-wdv . Couldn’t agree more!!!

Most of datacenters are owned and managed by Equinix. Vendors like AMZN,GOOG, MSFT, ORCL etc., hosts their servers in those datacenters. In fact, in many locations same building will have all these companies servers.

Real cloud providers don't own undersea cables.

"networking is fast connect which is a hodgepodge of service providers "

Are you expecting Oracle laying it's own undersea cables or something equally insane ?

Data centers are rented, cloud software is being rewritten, networking is fast connect which is a hodgepodge of service providers to specific rented data centers.

My understanding of the support offered is Oracle will only provide support on Oracle products, not 3rd party vendors (like AWS) but I don't know what the other poster meant by their comment.

"Oracle only wants to support their own stack of barely functioning, old technology."

Which technology you're talking about here ?

do you mean more than 60 people won't understand or people that are older than 60? I'm 61 and fully understand the AWS technology but I have an engineering degree :) No doubt the AWS and most of the other mainstream cloud companies have a better architecture than Oracle and they support multiple environments. Oracle only wants to support their own stack of barely functioning, old technology.

Things have been changed. Some 60+ folks won't understand why AWS works well.

What is the data center story now? Are they still renting 3rd party warehousing or did they build their own centers that are staffed by Oracle? It's been said that Oracle has serious issues with data security and the cloud provisioning management has all quit to move to AWS or Google. My company refused to move our on premise apps to cloud and the sales people brought in 3 layers of management to try to threaten us, when we said we had no confidence that Oracle has a cloud that's functioning - they offered us no charge cloud licenses and the ability to move to on premise if we didn't like the cloud. I'm surprised they didn't offer to throw in the Brooklyn bridge and a handful of beads to sweeten the offer...
