Don’t want to be taken the wrong way. I only want to underline the fact that laid off plant workers have little to look forward to after being laid off, especially the long timers. Working in the automotive industry mean working in a specialized and specific domain of work, and after years of service most of the people are unable to switch industries. To make matters worse, most of the companies in the industry.are laying in the same time frame. Not saying that automotive workers should have any special treatment, but the fact is that laid of workers in that industry are in a far worse position that the folks in other businesses.

This is the year for union negotiations. There is no way the hourly workforce will be targeted this year, or we will end up with a prolonged strike situation.
Plants are being closed, yes, but so far workers are being shuffled around and offered jobs at other locations to accommodate. If they choose not to take the new job offered, that's on them, and not a layoff.
Plants are next in line...
Word of advice....flexibility....cross train....think for yourself....don't wait for union to take care of you.
The layoffs we’re taking about now are salaries personnel, engineering, finance, support, not people in plants.
