Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Get out.

If you're a Network/Software Engineer in RTP or Richardson with 5+ years experience and not breaking 95K (base salary) leave Cisco. Cisco is notorious for paying 10-30% below market rate. And if you're red badge looking to be converted to blue, under no circumstances accept a pay cut during the conversion process because you are told "the benefits make up for it".

The Cisco today is the not the same Cisco from 20 years ago, so stop assuming you'll get that raise or that promotion. Cisco is a self-serving, cut-throat, back-stabbing establishment. Leadership is wildly out of touch and holds little regard for those with technical prowess. Do yourself a favor and evacuate this sinking ship. Stop being complacent, step out of your comfort zone, and find yourself a company that values and pays for talent.

That's because of Huawei. Now with Huawei gone, our benefits will come back so as Ericsson, Nokia and Ciena.

@1frc: That’s exactly the difference. I wish more people at Cisco understood this. In the meantime, I’ll go back to making things elsewhere.

you could go to amazon and be a slave for life for big $$ or sleep in your current job at cisco

There is more truth in this one statement than you could ever imagine. But what is missing is that at Amazon you make something. Something creative, something useful, something that makes getting up worth the effort. Years fly by at Amazon because every day your effort means something.

Cisco is easy, learn to play politics and you get 5h workdays with little actual effort demanded. Life is easy, but ultimately hollow.

This is the real reason Cisco isn't the company it once was - there is no fire, no desire, no drive to MAKE something. It pays the bills but at a great price.

Fran is spending that 10-30% money to buy #1 place to work spots... and her fancy jackets.

They told last time that 75% of company is underpaid and yet they are #1 to work for. B@lls.

The “where should we go?” response is concerning. Everyone should have a Plan B. A strong network, an updated resume, and a list of target companies ready to go at all times. Better yet, always be looking for your next opportunity.
