Thread regarding Ford layoffs

This SRD is aimed at people with 15+ years of service

Over the last 2 years, there has been voluntarily packages offered to reduce headcount. Mgmnt expected the "old timers" to accept and take the packages offered, however, it was the young recent college grads that took the package. They benefited by getting company paid tuition, getting a package, and then finding jobs elsewhere. So now, this separation is aimed at the employees with 15+ years of service who get a pension. Obviously, the company can't age discriminate and will let some young people go, but the majority will be high seniority employees. .. hope i'm wrong but that what it seems like.

This explains the company's $11bln restructuring objective... eliminating pension accrual and reduce high salaried employees.

I believe you are spot on. I am being red circled. I fit your description as do many around me affected. Waiting to jump on board a class action lawsuit. There needs to be accountability

You are likely vested in your pension, so you will get it at some point. If you are 55+ you can retire with all of the supplements, etc. go to the benefits website and do the pension calculator to see the various scenarios. Talk to a Financial Planner! they can provide the most guidance depending on your age, income, debt, scenario. Good Luck! Remember, if you are let go and are eligible for retirement you will likely be able to "retire" with severance. This is what I have heard - either way if you are let go you will get the severance.

If I get let go next week will it affect my pension? Should I apply for my retirement now or just see how things shake out? What are the risks?
