Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Ford shouldn't be getting rid of its top talent

I understand the need to save money through cost cutting, but how is it a good business strategy to get rid of your best performers? Because let's get real - people who are being laid off outside of plant closures are those who have been here the longest. People who know how to do their jobs, how to react in a crisis, how to improve on bad design or decisions...

When you lose people like that, what does your future look like?

The problem is that Fords has let its innate culture grow and expand for decades. Now the leaders don’t know who is really doing work and who is blowing smoke. The whole chain is corrupted.

Many tech companies have a system where coworkers honestly rate each other’s competence and recommend coworkers as the person to go to for expert help. The problem at Fords is whatever they try something like this all the smoke blowers get together and praise each other so then the truth gets lost in the false praise. The true experts are embarrassed if their name shows up on the list because they don’t want to be associated with the smoke blowers. Eventually the program dies and then sometime later they try it again with a different name.

The qualified are being let go - just another indication that the "team" making these decisions doesn't have a clue. A*es
