VSP Unemployment Not Happenin

I was a VSP’er in December and filed for unemployment and had an appeal hearing and was denied. Was told no employee of Verizon that “volunteered” to leave will be approved for unemployment in any state so anyone saying they got it is lying!

3wkp - You do have a point ... I don’t know if it’s worth it . Again, anyone who believes that they should receive unemployment then they do have options. Explore all options and decide. Wish all nothing but the best for you!

3vsv, speaking of jokes, how does hiring a lawyer at a rate higher than unemployment would have paid make any sense in your world? If you're selling a home for $200k, are you going to put $400k worth of work into it before listing it for that $200k?

This is a joke .... none of the statements/replies are correct... Please research and feel what is right for you. If you feel strongly about unemployment and they deny you then appeal and hire a lawyer. I hope that the previous replies are not being written by VZ HR specialists because they will find out who wrote them and dismiss them. Let the process flow and see what happens.

If Verizon does not appear at an appeal hearing the employee is typically approved for unemployment. My understanding is that they send representation 50% of the time

Most likely, if you were still unemployed after the severance payments end, you would be able to apply for unemployment. So, you can get it, just not right now.

I agree that this was volunteer and you should not be able to collect unemployment and they did stress the point vz would contest claims. This was voluntary buyout, not a layoff. They also stressed the fact that there were 3 off payroll dates and that if you were not ok with any of those dates, you should not volunteer. I left in dec and wish I could collect unemployment too but vz made it clear that they would not agree to that. I too felt that leaving by my choice or theirs was inevitable. I do believe they wanted to get rid of the people with pensions, max vacation but, if I did not volunteer, I would be at my desk tomorrow morning so leaving is on me.......not sorry!

I have been receiving unemployment since February as a vsp from December. Although it was a voluntary separation the company decided on departure dates which meant some people were let go in December and others in June which is 6 months salary

I have heard that several people have received unemployment, at least in MA. They appealed and one based on the fact that Verizon did not give them a choice on departure date. The fact that they were released in December or March and others not until June was cause for the decision to approve Unemployment. I also heard that Verizon does not bother to send any representation to any appeal hearings gives the employee the benefit of the doubt.

I took VSP 12/28/18 and did not file for unemployment. During one of the "information" phone calls we had before leaving, we were told Verizon would contest any application for unemployment by anyone who took VSP. Since I didn't apply, I don't know if Verizon contesting would be enough to stop unemployment payments.

My advice just get back in the game. Vz over pays on many jobs. Take less If needed , learn and continue to grow. It will work out.
