Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Expendable people?

White, female over 50 RIF'd last week after 4 years at O. Fortunately, I was 2 months into being vested when let go. Chronic problem at O with sales leaders overestimating sales projections, staffing up to hit those numbers, only to RIF those at the end of the year. Really chaotic, non-strategic environment. Chasing shiny objects as objectives on a weekly, directionless basis in cloud. Pathetic. I definitely have seen the majority of folks RIF'd as over 40/50 crowd. They figure they are paying too much and want to replace with young, inexperienced, cheaper labor.

Seems to be planned to me. Overhire now, then you have plenty of people to layoff later, that way , the manager and their yes-men are safe. In my experience, management tries to keep a pad of expendable people around them.

"Age discrimination is illegal, so I suggest you get over it."

I didn't say to get over age discrimination, dummie. I suggest you reread my response.

Also. Prove it about age discrimination. don't conveniently say 'we can't see it, can't feel it; but just all know it's there.'

Yes, age discrimination is illegal. There is really no way to get redress. It’s really a way to devalue human assets and cast them aside for a cheaper model. If you need to rely on balancing your budget in this manner, to show Wall Street a “profit” or whatever, it’s an unimaginative and lazy way to compete. Cutting your way to success, the Oracle way, pioneered by IBM.

Age discrimination is illegal, so I suggest you get over it. Yes you can hide it, couch and it and even deny it, but it is still an illegal practice. Further, if your definition of "pulling bank" is working below market value, then knock yourself out.

First off, everyone is expendable. Get over it.

Secondly, getting tired of this 'firing me, hiring younger for cheaper' nonsense. You just simply didn't have a good ROI. Ironically, most new hires are actually pulling bank.

I guess it's a self-defense mechanism to being let go. It's a 'not me' it is a 'it is them.'

@1nzt to be fair that's not an Oracle thing, that happens at just about every company in the world.

"Budget" is the commitments the sales org has to deliver to the business. That is divided into "quota" for individual salespeople.

Quota is always higher than budget.

Don’t forget the anti poaching agreement that many of the Silicon Valley tech companies had. Even if a company was not accused, those actions brought down compensation for everyone, male, female, black, white, etc.

Here is a ‘secret’ for you: if you add up the sales targets of individual sales reps it by far exceeds the total sales target - that happens at every level. O would much prefer that individual sales reps not reach their targets b/c that reduces payouts which as you might know escalate once sales reps exceed 100% of their targets. Also, O hires lots of sales reps and throws them at ill conceived targets to see if they can make something happen - it’s the throw snowballs at a wall to see how many will stick strategy. Should be obvious that they don’t care about you or me as individuals, it’s all about maximizing the chances of reaching and exceeding sales targets for those at the very top. Get out !

Thousands of women were systematically underpaid at Oracle, one of Silicon Valley’s largest corporations, according to a new motion in a class-action complaint that details claims of pervasive wage discrimination.

A motion filed in California on Friday said attorneys seek to represent more than 4,200 women and alleged that female employees were paid on average $13,000 less per year than men doing similar work. An analysis of payroll data found disparities with an “extraordinarily high degree of statistical significance”, the complaint said. Women made 3.8% less in base salaries on average than men in the same job categories, 13.2% less in bonuses, and 33.1% less in stock value, it alleges.

The US Department of Labor (DoL) has accused the tech firm Oracle of widespread discrimination against women and people of color, including more than $400m in lost wages and rampant exclusion of black and Hispanic people in hiring.

Hire and replace is MH strategy. So yeah not so much discrimination on hire, but plenty when looking for someone to let go. Women over 40 are always the first out.

Might just do a quick google on that a lady got the HR data and shared it with the DOJ earlier this year. The numbers support your claim

Not to support Oracle's egregious sales targets, but this is how most of the industry works - if you don't hit your goals - you're gone. And Oracle is famous for giving unattainable goals and changing territories every fiscal year so you have little chance of being successful. Then if you are successful, you need to fight for your commissions - you're better off somewhere else that treats you with respect and pays you what you deserve.
