How do they execute layoffs?

Conf call? Meeting with a dir? HR present? Who’s in the room? How long does it last? Can you negotiate anything? Do you have time to pack up?

Questions, questions… I have so many of them right now. I just hope I am not affected…

Stop with the id--tic comments about the turnstiles. The change had nothing to do with layoffs. Some buildings never had the swipe to get out process to begin with.

Sure hope all of you conspiracy nuts are already let go.

When I was let go, I was told my personal items at my desk would be packed up and sent to me. Well, I didn’t receive anything after waiting many weeks. When I contacted HR and informed them of such, they were unaware that my items were not sent. Then, I finally received a box in the mail but a lot of my personal items were missing.

If you get called to a conference room, do yourself a favor and just take your bag/keys/whatever with you. Surely no one is really surprised when they walk into the conference room at this point.

this so asymmetric it’s not even funny. In my business unit people are leaving and they are asking them to stay for a few months before they quit because they claim they can’t find replacements right away.

I have a real issue with employees not being able to collect their belongings. Not sure that’s legal. Who is to say if something is missing? Anyone affected should insist on gathering their own things. Bizarre.

Generally, you would be called to a conf room. An HR rep is present and a manger. The manger will give you the corporate line, being let go for (enter reason here). They leave the room and the hr rep will go over all the details with you. No negotiations, no you can’t return to your desk. Probably takes about 20-30 min, you’ll be pretty dazed/head spinning, you can ask as many questions as you like but you’ll get a substantial packet of information. Your belongings will be mailed to you, if you need car keys or whatever, someone can get those for you. You’ll be escorted to the turnstile. Good luck
