Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Is it just me?....

Why is it on the UP website every other day it seems an employee performed some sort of heroic act? And when they take the photo of said hero or heroes there all posted up tryin to look hard, like they a somebody? Plus if you read that monthly newsletter all of the pics of the employees they seem to be tryin to look all hard, what is up, what kind of circus is this place, i can tell you this, i have never met a true badass that works there. Another thing ive noticed is that alot of employees all try to act like they got money, like they rollin. Well your not. Im sure the moneys good but not that good. Keep your UP polos this company seems like a f---in joke

I knew two guys who really went above and beyond preventing a big problem before it happened.

We are all layed off now. The articles never mention those who are no longer employed with UP due to PSR.

@Original Poster:

The term for what you described is public relations (PR). Most organizations of any size engage in it to some degree.

In my opinion, UP isn't very good at this, and some of their attempts at PR are downright cringeworthy. It is also well known that the culture at UP doesn't match what they try to project using PR.

2 gen roader here. And let me tell you its about the retirement, not the right now money. The trick is to see if you dont get sh--canned before your 30 years. The day your hired is the day you put a target on your back. Youve not only got managment tryin to get you but fellow employees also. The place is notorious for backstabbing. Dont let the unions trick you into the whole brotherhood thing either, its as far from that as possible. Plus the unions are in bed with the company, but everyone knows that.

If you work for Union Pacific then you ARE a hero. And I should know because I’m a 9th generation railroader.

Ive worked at up for 15 years and can tell you this, the money is good compared to most blue collar jobs. Most crafts here are pullin in 6 figures, more than enough to support your average family as long as you dont live in California. For someone who doesnt work there youve got alot of nerve talkin smack, sounds like you didnt make the cut!
