COBRA/Health Insurance

Let's document this.

Does anyone know how much is COBRA for a family of four (I have two teenagers + spouse)?

What's covered by COBRA? Is dental / vision included?

Thank you!

I believe medical itself is above $1500 for the family. Damn expensive

From someone who was displaced a year ago...

My experience is that there is a distinction between insurance coverage during your displacement/severance period (when you don't need COBRA because the "package" still covers insurance) and after that.

During the 8 months of my severance, my insurance was paid by the company and identical to what I had while employed.

When that ran out, that was when I needed COBRA, which I pay out of pocket. I then had to decide what level and coverage (e.g., did I want dental). Everything you add (or person) adds to the cost of your coverage.

But you don't need COBRA at the onset (unless, I imagine, a very recent hire)

COBRA includes medical, dental, vision. Will be the same coverage you have now, just that you'll be paying for it. Can keep COBRA for 18 months

Right, call Employee Benefits... It should be in your total comp package as well. Just look at the number that the company pays, that's the number you will pay. Much easier to call Employee Benefits and ask for COBRA info.

You can call Employee Benefits / health care, and they’ll provide an accurate quote. True, it’s more expensive because it’s not employer subsidized.

It's expensive, you'll pay what the company pays. So, a bit discounted but still a lot. I am pretty certain that the number goes up in a linear fashion, e.g., each additional person brings the cost up for the same amount - something like this.
