Welcome Back Program

Who will benefit from the company’s new Welcome Back to Chevron program? Is the program company wide or only available to former Downstream employees?

Those who were laid off won’t be accepted back. Those who volunteered to retire may stand a chance of being rehired if their skills are still relevant.

Did any former employees return during the program? If so, how man?

Have candidates been selected to return to the company on the program? If so, what was or were the determining factors?

Why have a Welcome Back Program when just 3 or 4 years ago we had a Good Riddance Program?

When you left the company, there was never any intentions of welcoming you back. To believe anything else is like jerking off.

Welcome back, what a joke! Did you even stop to think that one through? Once Chevron lays you off for whatever reason, you’re history. If they want to hire experience, they’ll poach personnel from another company first. Save your dignity and apply for a job elsewhere, unless you crave being cast aside by Chevron more than once.

They didn't look past my resume, and I don't know anyone, just worked hard and didn't cheat on my work hours like so many so. Good luck, and don't give up.

The majority of former employees were not previously laid off for gross incompetence or fraud, but many hiring managers make the CYA assumption that maybe “their applicant” was one of those. So, half the time they will look past your job application and consider other candidates instead.

There are some decent engineering jobs posted in California and Houston. The program is real and seeks to take advantage of "pre-Chevronized" former employees, assuming they weren't previously laid off for gross incompetence or fraud.

@qikw, I clicked on one of the jobs on the Welcome Back page and a message box appeared that read, “There’s no jobs. We only posted these fake jobs to comply with Dept of Labor requirements”.

If you click on any of the jobs on the welcome back page, you are told that the job is not available.

You hit the nail of the head, @4rwk. HR doesn’t know what they’re doing.

Didn’t they just finish laying off some of their HR people. So why are they be advertising to rehire them? Sounds like HR has no clue what they are doing.

It’s not strange that we are hiring again. Why not hire back the experienced Chevron talent the company lost to voluntarily and forced retirement when we were laying off people in 2015 and 2016. The 3 year time limit has already passed and former Chevron employees can now be rehired full time again. The big question would be how many of these former employees will apply and how many will be accepted to return?

Strange that we are hiring again. Feels like we have too many people still.

I couldn’t have said it better @1gwh. Chevron is a great company and I had the pleasure of working with many good people for 27 years. It’s true that one can get too focused on job and money to realize there’s more important things in life. Now that I’m out and enjoying my time in retirement, I wouldn’t go back to work for anyone anymore.

I saw this also. I was out in 2016 at the ESP. I loved working for Chevron at the time. But realized that the grass is actually greener... I was driven by the money at CVX, and didn’t prize my work/life balance as much I should have. Great company, good money, not going back.

Welcome back is targeted at former employees. I left CVX in late 2015 as part of Alpha ... and do not plan to go back ... having too much fun not working. But a friend who is still there, sent me the company wide flyer hoping I might consider the opportunity ... and it states: "Applications are being accepted for U.S.-based candidates in the following disciplines: information technology, engineering, procurement, human resources, land, and operations and maintenance"

You fill out some forms and if get interviewed ... and if you are still in the running ... then there is an initial trial period of a 10-week program that runs from September 3 through November 22, 2019. Participants who successfully demonstrate their abilities to fulfill position requirements may be offered full-time employment. Hard to tell who will benefit ... but if you are in one of the targeted disciplines and left in good standing (for whatever reason) ... it appears there is a chance to get rehired. Time will tell.
