COBRA / Medical Insurance Question

I am fairly certain I will be let go very soon.

Does anyone know how much is COBRA for a family of four (I have two teenagers + spouse)?

What's covered by COBRA? Is dental / vision included?

Thank you!

FYI to everyone. If you look into Obamacare you will be getting robo-dialed sales calls everyday on it for the rest of your life. Put in a fake phone number.

I don’t know where everyone’s getting these crazy high numbers:

To determine your COBRA premiums, you’ll have to add what your employer has been contributing toward your premiums to what you’ve been paying in premiums, and then add the 2 percent service charge.

Fords premiums are available in the yearly amount in HR online total rewards section. Take the number and divide it by 12, then multiply by 1.02. For a family of four the HSA plan comes to $530. I have no idea what the plus plan costs though.

Look on your pay stub it probably lists what your company pays for you for your monthly coverage. cobra is that amount plus 2 percent for the same coverage. You may find less coverage but cheaper out on the exchange. Cobra lasts for 12 to 18 months.

It's insane how people think they're invincible and never save up a 6 month to 1 year emergency fund for situations like this, then cry that the government can't take care of them when they get laid off.

Face it. The country has no safety net for folks in need. Now we can argue is that good or bad, the rest of the world thinks different if compared to us. But, we are exceptional in every sense - both good and bad. It's a complicated discussion that goes into the core of who we are as the nation.

The B.S. isn't the loss of insurance. The B.S. is the hyper inflated costs of healthcare because insurance was a benefit for so long. That's what happens when an industry knows no one is watching because it's no longer a consumer issue - it's merely a benefit.

I would not waste my money on cobra, these people are correct. 1500 per month for a family. Look into something due to a layoff, a lower cost option. You may just need major medical until you find another job. They may only cost 600 per month

I’m pretty sure for cobra you pay what the company paid on your behalf. That’s listed on your myfordbenefits total rewards page. I think it’s $500+/month Dental I think is included with cobra. I think severance includes coverage extension as well so cobra wouldn’t need to kick in right away. Check out SIRP on the life at ford page for that.

Call your Benefits customer service number. They should be able to give you an estimate. I was "laid off" from GM and my COBRA (Single, no family) is $397/month for BCBS basic, Dental, Vision.

And here we go. This is just one of the many worries of employees and how morale has dropped considerably at Ford. Having an impending doom of being fired is probably great for your health.....

Sorry I cant help you with your question, but stay strong and remember that a job is just that, a job, its not life..

I don't have numbers for you but I remember it was SUPER expensive about 10 years ago. I may be wrong but it was about 1500 for a family of three.
