"IBM has no competition in the z/series world." "So certain are you!". The competition for z-series is increasingly in the cloud. Many companies are using cloud for computing roles that would previously have been performed by a mainframe. There is a constant flow of new software innovation to be deployed on cloud hardware, along with constant major new developments in cloud hardware. How much new mainframe software has been written recently? How long before the mainframe becomes redundant?

Every place where IBM thinks they are good, is where new competitors eat their lunch.

Take your pick: Cloud, DevOps, collaboration, BI and AI. IBM is in the niche quadrant, heading down and to the left.

Startups take their direction from IBM. They all know IBM is a push over.

IBM has no competition in the z/series world because IBM made that market and drove out the competition with the best products and service. That was 30-40 years ago but even since then no one has dared compete with IBM in mainframe. But nothing like that has happened since. IBM was handed guaranteed leadership in the PC market but mismanaged themselves into oblivion. Can you think of a single product or market IBM has dominated n the past 30 years other than z? IBM calls z "legacy" for a reason, because they know they'll never make anything like that happen again.

IBM is not smarter leader in much.

Competition doesn’t even think about IBM

Clients only work w IBM abc of financial-contractual entrapment.

It depends on the technology .. IBM has its fingers in so many pies and for each one, is being dominated by other companies. Other than the competition-free mainframe pie.
