Thread regarding IBM layoffs

Farewell Ya'll

I've accepted an offer from another company last Friday...

I feel like a weight has been lifted.

Dealing with the constant dread/stress of looming RAs and uncertainty was just way too much for me.

I wish ya'll the best out there!

Did the same thing this week. One too many ra's, one too many reorgs, one too few competitive products to sell, one too many ela reversal, one too many absurd quota, one too many divestitures, and one too few new ceo's. It all boiled down to no hope for the future, and I finally hit my limit.

Double digit raise, big signing bonus, vastly better benefits. Wish I'd done it a year ago,

Good for you. I feel the same way everyday waiting for the phone call from the manager...

I quit 2 years ago. In true IBM fashion just before I resigned, i had being moved to a new team and had a new boss. It was great because 1) my new boss handled the exit very quickly and professionally because he seemingly didn't give a toss. 2) My old boss seemed to be very annoyed at me for not giving her a "heads up" that I intended to leave in advanced. Guess it had made her look "bad" in front of her fellow managers.

Its strange how when the shoe is on the other foot - how they don't like it. Is IBM giving employees a "heads up" that their job is at risk and they should make every effort to find another job ... BEFORE they are actually RAed .... no, I don't think so.

Exactly.

I quit on Dec 7 2018. It was liberating. I still miss my old team but this move made sense for me and my family. I still think that IBM is an awesome company and my time at GBS (8 years) was well spent - learned a ton and traveled the world. There is no simple answer that fits all (as it relates to 'should I stay or should I go' dilemma) - I was reevaluating my IBM situation every six months and things would change all the time. Finally on 12/7 it was time to go. As folks before me noted, it was liberating indeed...

I did that last April after 22 years, the moment I called my manager and told him the release was incredible. I honestly didn't expect it to be so immediate and strong a sense of stress release.

I have no regrets and like most people have so many things to be thankful for in those 22 years, not least the amazing people I met and worked with and a vast amount of experience gained. But in the end it became an annual cycle of anxiety and survival as the RA's came and came and the terms got worse.

Anyway, good luck and hope things work out as well for you as they did me.
