Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Make up your mind UP, are we essential or not??

UP wants to furlough or drive us to quit because there are too many of us, but if we try to take a vacation day they act like the railroad will come to a grinding halt and the sky will fall if any of us lay off. Which is it? Do you love us and need us or are we lazy leeches pushing up your operating ratio? My parents told me not to get into toxic, abusive relationships like this.

OP: As far as UP is concerned you're expendable. Stay there long enough, and you'll be expended.

My advice: work on your resume and start applying for jobs with other companies. It won't take you long to find a good job in the current market.

Bobby Boucher: Mama, when did Ben Franklin invent electricity?

Mama Boucher: That's nonsense, I invented electricity. Ben Franklin is the Devil!

As they cut more and more the ones left behind are very essential. That’s what’s wrong with the way they are running. No people left for when things don’t go perfect

We are ALL valued.....as long as we hold massive amounts of UP stock. No matter how hard you work they will fire as many as it takes to get to that magical OR (operating ratio for you managers out there) to pump up those stock prices. The reason they are pushing the little customers away is because they are banking on 1 man crews with the implementation of PTC. It's easier to have a train run itself on long hauls (and not need 2 men) when you dont have as many yards and places to pick up. It's all there for us to see if we stop and read between the lines. I hate to say it, but the conductor may have just seen its last ride. RIP railroading as we know it.
