Thread regarding Ford layoffs

@-fplh Examine the “If I did not have a pension I would have left the company already”. This is what other good eggs (square pegs) said right up to the point when they were SRD right before their pension would of hit the significant milestones. They would of been better off financially and health wise to leave Ford earlier. Many of the good eggs health suffers at Ford as they constantly must battle the Ford dysfunctional family culture. Those good eggs who stand up for what is right must fight a continual battle against character assassination, credit stealing and blame games by the status quo crowd (round pegs). The battle is always lost in the end (the ratio of round pegs to square pegs is overwhelming - there is not a single square peg in LL5+ crowd). Every person who was fighting to enact the “Ford culture change” that Hackett and Billy promote was SRD in my business unit. The status quo crowd remains. As a fellow good egg (square peg), I am actively looking for a square hole company. I have seen what my future at Ford will be.

It is sad everyday I watch as square pegs tune out and just do precisely what they are told, even as they know it is the wrong thing to do. They smile and pretend all is well and just let the round pegs destroy the company. They know the cost of speaking up and doing the right thing. I understand why they do it, Ford culture will ever truly change when change agents are SRD and change blockers are rewarded.

There are so many unproductive workers within Ford Motor Company. I have worked at Ford for many years and I have seen everything. Upper management only cares to do something if it’s a disaster. No one is being productive or proactive. Engineers hires outside engineers to do their work. Everyone in the company paint a pretty picture for everything that the do or report out. Everyone try to hide all of the bad stuff and lies about their accomplishments. No one really tells the truth, except for a handful of employees that are actually being honest.

Smart phones should be banned at work and the games played all day, like words or candy crush.

I am not surprised at how things have turned out. This is what happens when the people who created and benefit from the Ford Culture were put in charge of reDesigning it. I have been around long enough to see many cultural change initiatives all with heavy PR all while nothing really changed. It is so sad. I bleed blue.

There was the let’s address gender issues. Virtually overnight the GSR band 9 and 10 (LL6) male-female ratio was adjusted by mass female promotions based on seniority and connectedness, not talent.

There was the let’s address race issues. Virtually overnight LL6 ranks became more diverse with the creation of new positions and promotions.

There was the let’s address country issues. Virtually overnight work shifted to various other countries with many new positions and promotions.

The real power and the good positions remained under the control of the same demographic.

And silently the dissenters and true believers were shuffled off in RIF, or left on their own after poor treatment.

Let us not forget that before each of these initiatives, that one item was claimed to be the root of Ford’s issues. It was declared fixed. But the underlying true cultural problems persisted. And later yet another initiative was embarked upon.

Now we have let’s address age issues, we need to make room for 30 year olds in leadership positions.

The same pattern occurs.

A diverse workforce is a good thing. But let us not kid ourselves, in all of the actions the most qualified and skilled were not given opportunities - those were not selected. Look carefully at the selection process. Then you will see why the Ford Culture will likely never change. You are better off not expecting much.

As has been mentioned, employees who had there head down and pulling not only their weight, but others were let go. Allot of these so called older workers were filling in all the holes that many GSRs and LL6s were leaving open due to the new outstanding work ethic that exists today. The company made its bed. If you thought this year was disaster, just hold on for 2020/21. Good Luck to all.

We have meeting after meeting to decide who will take over the work our tech spec was doing. All that is accomplished is the remaining LL6 all complain about how much work it is and they cannot do it unless they hire many people. When the LL5 insists the work needs to be done then the knives, hatchets and pitchforks appear. For the love of Pete it has been a month and not a darn thing is getting done. Well done Ford leadership, you certainly chose the right LL6 to retain. Smartly done.

Ford is now internally floundering. People randomly moved around into jobs they have no experience. Then the focus on promoting a bunch of 35 and way younger so Ford can pretend it is a start-up. They stroll into the office at 9:30-10am. Leave for lunch every day. No working through lunch for them. Then they return to spend the afternoon visiting with their friends talking openly of their mentorships with higher ups and their expectations of another promotion in the next year or so before they sail out the door by 2:30 to not be heard from again until the next day. We are just a day care center now and nothing is really getting done anymore. Those of us left clearly have gotten the message from Ford that the only people that matter are those under 30. From what I can see, it won't be long before another corporate disaster hits us that nearly takes us down like Firestone almost did. These people won't know what to do or even see it coming. It is the most demoralizing environment and horrible to witness as anyone with experience can only be silent and hide in terror.

I have learned that those who put forth extra effort will be given more work to do, while those who slack off just continue to slack off. Extra work and effort are not rewarded beyond feeling good about yourself for doing a good job. Ford doesn't recognize special effort on your part. Ford supervisors resent and punish those who notice the slackers. If you have a bad supervisor, find another position before the death spiral begins.

The same things occurs under my supervisor. My supervisor in Europe. A women on our Dearborn team worked from home for an entire year. She attended MBA classes at Lawrence Tech that year instead of doing her job. When we reported her to supervisor, he denied it was occurring and dinged is on our PR (lack of teamwork). then she got a promotion when she got her MBA. After that the rest of the team halved their working hours. The liquid lunch club and afternoon siesta club was born. I have been trying to get off this team as it is a ticket to nowhere.

This is why Ford Motor Company is a losing stock investment. Your over priced F-150 line-up will only keep you going for so long.

and we go home and cut our lawns and wash our cars on the way back from our 3 hour lunch. Its AWESOME!

Not to add to the fire but this type of behavior is BS. I work at Ford also and I can say the people in my group work very hard. We run a 24 hour 365 day operation. It pisses me off to hear that these traitors to the good people of the working class still have a job. Its all about whose azz your nose goes in.

It's all about s---ing up to management to save their jobs. Slugs are good at it.
