Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Cowards. Disgraceful.

I was a long time worker at BNY Mellon who always got excellent reviews. However, I fit the bill of being just old enough and making just enough money to make the list of 2019 layoffs. Forget the quality of the work you did. Forget loyalty. That did not matter. If that's not disgraceful enough, where were the people I busted my you know what for? Did they stick up for me? Did they say this is wrong? Well, I wouldn't know because none of them, who I made look better with my work results, have not once reached out to me to offer their thoughts or explain what happened or what they tried to do to stop it. It leads me to believe none of the above happened. Cowards. All of them.

Been here for 30 years. A few more years until retirement. Hate working here every day. Too many layoffs that are not justified. How do u motivate staff in this environment? Why doesn’t our mgmt push back? I suppose they’re scared themselves of being cut. Quality suffers. Staff suffers. Nobody cares. this used to be a company people were proud to be a part of. Those days are long gone.

I don’t think anybody went to bat for me either. I saved both managers so many headaches it’s absurd. Earned exceeded expectations 5 of last 6 years and was receiving bigger raises and bonuses than most in area of about 30- I'm younger than 35, so it wasn't my age. Whatever. That place blows. I worked in two departments there with asset serving being the biggest clown show I've ever witnessed.

Worst management and work environment ever. Stay away from working for this company.

The exact same happened to me and even told me a blatant lie in my consultation period. I had the evidence to hand.

Your manager cannot reach out and tell you the truth until he/she no longer works at the company. But don’t be surprised to hear that your manager did not know, or did not like you, or simply chose you instead of someone else. I am not sure if anyone would tell you those reasons, but what else could it be.

I for one put in a good day's work last week. I WFH'ed and watched 3 movies, 2 soap operas, and did my laundry.

Often the managers don’t even realize what all that we do before they lay us off. Part of that is due to the recent disorganization of people that remain. Part of that is due to managers that are disgusted with the situation an just putting in time until they find a new job or get laid off themselves. Part of it, just bad managers. And it just keeps getting worse.

Good luck to those let go. Enjoy your comp and have your best summer ever, then get a great job and move on.

Good luck to those that remain. Put in a good days work. Don’t bother overworking, the company really does not care. Managers, support your teams as best you can. And remember: the next lay off could include YOU.

Newbies, this is what you are getting into. Think about the other interviews you just had, and seriously consider a different company because FOR SURE this is just a horrible place to work.

They did you wrong, as they have many others. They have a lot of nerve talking about “do the right thing”.

This is exactly what happened to me in January!! I no longer care about my previous position but I do miss a lot of my co-workers and my staff. I have a year a sub and intend to obtain every cent before returning to work. Glad I don't have to worry about being laid off every day!!!!!

My situation mirrors yours to a T. I assure you that once you get past the injustice of it all, you will be celebrating because you effectively won the lottery by getting out of a sinking ship and receiving a severance package to boot. The organization is definitely not what it used to be and that still saddens me. You will land on your feet and hold your head high. You are a survivor.
