To the clubs that started receiving during the day how does it work when receiving trucks wile open? My club starts this Saturday and managers still don’t have answers. Thanks

I've been at Sam's for a year now. Im spending most time stocking & zoning freezer/cooler,by myself. Then I'm supposed to unload DCs at the same time...again,by myself. I've been told that once upon a time they had as many as 4 drivers unloading trucks after closing yet I'm by myself on the re regular. I was also informed that freezer/cooler is supposed to be done by another department. Now employee could be just starting sh– because im fairly new but...

We have been doing this for months already and It’s a very complicated process so far. Working the receiving scheduled to the T, coordinating DC deliveries, (ours are unloaded at night) and ensuring both shifts running freight at all times when closed is key. Sometimes when we get a water truck in, we pallet jack all the water to the aisle and slot it with spotters right away so we can continue to unload DC’s. Management doesn’t have a clue, I usually just do what I need to and tell them what I’m doing, they usually let me do my thing.

the system is never going to work right. The local managers are mostly all stupid or incapable of rational thought. like every other failure in the club this will fail because managers do not manage they only mouth the words given them by HO. But even in doing that they do their best to twist things for their own purposes.

We started block June 7, there are issues to be worked out. The problem started out with the hiring freeze for the month of May. Most overnight associates left the company thus we had very few for the 1:30 to 11:30pm shift. One callout for that shift threw us having one forklift driver, one manager (does not drive a lift) and a new associate. Day receiving left a DC in the dock door that arrived at 8am, the freezer cooler truck showed at 10:40pm then the DC showed. Needless to say we only unloaded the freezer cooler truck, cleared receiving and dropped pallets for the next morning. We need to hire experienced workers, fill the shifts and this system can work. But not the way it is now, not with three people on the evening block. H/O open your eyes. Come to the club, let's see what you can do with two people oh wait you have to run the front with the members as well. We all want to watch you sweat.

I am a former receiving team lead and a current backroom associate, we have been on the day stock program for about 3 weeks now and I must say so far is been absolutely horrible. we're getting no help whatsoever from our second shift for receiving, all of our trucks are having to be unloaded and put up in the steel before 7 a.m.. our market manager came in and said that we are not allowed to have forklifts on the sales floor past 7 a.m. anymore... So we are basically screwed because 3 hours is not enough time for 2 let alone 1 person to unload and put away multiple trucks. Oh and don't forget, you still have all your previous receiving responsibilities you had before just all this extra work now with less help. May the odds be ever in your favor my friend and good luck Saturday.

Should be fun. We have a small dock. May be able to fit half a Sam’s truck at the most. We usually get 2 Sam’s and 2 to 4 paper/water trucks a night. If the trucks line up around the building worst they can do is fire me lol. Doesn’t bother me at all. Good luck to everyone sticking around to see how it’s going to work out.

Assuming your work schedule gets you into your club before members arrive..

1-Keep your receiving dock as clear as possible.

2-learn to double-stack, or tripple-stack(when possible)

3-Unload the entire DC onto your dock, as quickly as possible.

4-rush your azz to get whatever you can into the steel before the club opens.

5- enjoy your 2% while you're k--ling yourself to do a good job while others of the same pay-grade drink coffee and kiss the backsides of the lazy managers, so their only concern during the day is how much Facebook time they have, while completely ignoring members.

I think that might get you started on how to do it.. :)
