We had a long thread on UP/CSX merger about 6 months ago. I wanted to reopen this discussion - want to see what people know or think now - the old thread is https://www.thelayoff.com/t/WuzB5HF or @WuzB5HF - Anyhow I am hearing rumors that UP is in the process of acquiring of CSX and this is why they are going bonkers for PSR. ( And why they brought over people from CSX for top positions within UP) Anyone else hear other rumors etc?

I would say CN before CSX. I have been seeing many, many CN locomotives in UP consists. As well as hiring all their former execs
Would be like KMart/Sears merger or Home Quarters/Builders Square mergers. Both didn’t work out very well.
Check the NS lay-off thread. They’re calling a NS CSX merger also. Pretty interesting, those men and woman are going through the same thing we are. For ever 2 locomotives stored 1 employee goes home. And for every mph increase in velocity that means we need 1 less locomotive. This is some of the stuff their SVP is telling them. The guy actually went out to every location for a town hall and discussed all of this. Would have been nice if the “leaders” at UP had the nuts to do the same for the men and woman they laid off the last couple of years.
Merger will happen to give the stock that final jump then Lance will cash out and leave this mess for someone else to clean up.
You lose all credibility at “hearing rumors”.
Any CSX/UP merger is likely to be blocked by an increasingly anti-trust Congress. Anything is possible, but I wouldn't bet on a merger taking place anytime soon.

Somebody was wearing a csx reflective vest? Damn they’re merging for sure now let’s keep the rumor going. Probably merging with BN and Norfolk Southern too. One man crews for one train company.
We noticed a guest at DeSoto car shop wearing a CSX reflective safety vest Thursday.
