Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

Mr. Ellison, Genesis was the first book in the bible

It’s incredible to hear about all the amazing technology upgrades that Lowe’s is planning. Soon, everything will be integrated and customers will experience a seamless shopping experience at point of sale. Wait... is that a black screen with green letters in all caps? You can’t use a mouse on that?

Think about the background of the average cashier at Lowe’s. Using a dos based POS is like driving into Detroit and selling horse drawn wagons.

Why have all other successful retailers upgraded, and why can’t Lowest?

Genesis was so much better than Sterling. How much money was wasted on that piece of c-ap?

I worked at Sears, a company known for not investing in stores, and even they used a more updated system and that was 5 years ago.

Just got back from HD, every register has a measuring stick going to 14 feet. Is that a 6’ pipe lean and measure, a 10’ pipe same, 10’ emt yup works for that too. Scan the barcode, a picture appears on the cashiers terminal. Is that a $10 Kohler faucet with that barcode, nope it should be a couple C clamps....

Technology is amazing, Lowe’s should look into it.

You have to be smarter than what your working with... You ever watch a brand new cashier, in their teens, tap on the fancy touch screens thinking they can use genesis like every other program they grew up with? There are tons of experts on genesis, and it has massive capabilities, but with the high turnover rate, most work done in genesis is by people who don’t know how to and won’t be there long enough to learn. It’s so antiquated that today’s programs can’t even interface with it. Actually they can interface, but it’s expensive to hire the type of programmers that know how to.

Instead of the horse and buggy comparison, how about relating it to punch card programming? That once innovative technology has been replaced and is dead now. Lowe’s needs to get its priorities straight, and Genesis causes turnover and lack of productivity.

Every program purchased to date has been sc-apped because it could not interface with GENESIS. It isn’t the mouse that’s the problem. IT’s THE F CKING PROGRAM!

You do realize this is a discussion about how bad technology is and you want to dispute that the mouse works in Genesis! There is nothing in Genesis that I can't do. Front to back, every report for all levels. It is a travesty that Lowe's would expect this to be acceptable for a company in 2019 and not having an executable plan to actually fix it. Raise your head just a little and get away from the mouse zone!

@ZHDwYhs-nji wrong!! You are able to copy and paste from and to genesis using the mouse. Therefor the mouse works with genesis. As I stated previously you just have to be smarter than what you’re working with.

they were going to invest like 500 million. he made the announcement soon after coming aboard...and then after like the 3rd quarter of 2018 he then announced they were putting the same exact amount in stock buy backs so the greedy investors, himself, and the board would see a higher rate of return. he now done 2 stock buy backs....thats where all the money is going that should be invested into the company itself.

tech upgrades cost money....directly takes away from profit going to stock holders.

Genesis, IBM systems 36 and 38, was old when I was young and cathode ray tubes were still being made better.

I can put gas in my 1981 Plymouth Horizon, but it still ain’t a corvette.

It’s way past time to upgrade. Maybe with new technology we could have “visibility “ for our costs and not be blindsided again?

Two things: First, considering the car industry in Detroit has been dead for almost 2 decades I would say selling wagons would be fairly easy.

Second, you surely can use a mouse on genesis you just have to be smarter than what you’re working with that’s all.
