Find a different job, life is too short to waste on IBM bloat processes.

Get creative and work hard for a different company, but not IBM.

Realize that in general, action precedes motivation, not vice versa. Just dive in and stir the waters. If you can break the job down into tasks, pick one and stick with it for 1 hour, whatever you think you can stand. You'll probably find yourself getting interested and motivated after all.

Ignore vzl and similar sour-grumps... Some of us old geezers are happy to give free career advice!

...

This is evidence that I am older than God, and I freely admit it... But before the internet amounted to a hill of beans, I was a product engineer, and I had nothing to do, for a few weeks. I didn't want to 'fess up to the boss, for fear of getting laid off (for nix to do, I am surplus, right?).

So... Here comes the evidence of how old I am... "Symphony" spreadsheets were a "k--ler app" in the day! Many product engineers (and similar) were taking print-outs from a computer data-base and HAND ENTERING the data to create factory yield charts and graphs!!!

Having nothing to do, I sat around and wrote Symphony macros to do some math stuff, totally irrelevant to everything and anything, except for my math hobby-interests... "For grins"... Out of it evolved my ability to write macros to import and parse the raw data to automate the creation of factory-yield charts and graphs!!!

It didn't get me a whole bunch of kudos with the boss, but it did with my co-workers... Kept me busy, for sure, made me feel good and confident about it all, and I moved on to a better job within the company, in a wee little while.

So anyway, look around and get creative! Even "for grins" may evolve into something useful! Sturdy software / apps. If nothing else, write a novel in your spare time at work!

It's all what you make it out of it - try to improve the process. Automate. Speed things up and ask for more responsibilities outside of what you do. This works for IBM and any other company - once managers realize that you can easily tackle what you are given - they may give you more complex stuff that tends to be more interesting.

Boring jobs are majority of jobs - you are not the only one with this problem - so figure out what works for you, get engaged and take control.

Good luck.
