Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

Is block scheduling making people quit at other clubs?

A couple of people at my club quit their jobs since block scheduling was implemented and their departure was directly related to the implementation of that scheduling system. I know for a fact that a few more people are thinking about quitting. Is the situation the same at other clubs, in the sense that block scheduling is creating a small exodus of workers?

We lost a majority of our night shift along with almost all of our floor people. There's no sense in learning cashiers name because it's just a revolving door in and mostly out. We had a hiring event a couple weeks ago but none of the managers will even talk to these people. Interviews have been set up but managers wont even come down to do them. I've watched people be sent to the cafe and then ignored so they end up leaving. Hell they wont even answer phone calls. At this rate we will never hire anyone.

Some have quit because of block scheduling. Some have quit because there isn't enough help. It's sad that the associates who spent years working for this company and cared about doing a great job are now leaving. Long term employees are the one's who gave it their all to make the company what it use to be. But now with all the changes morale is down. Not only is it bad for the associates it's also bad for the members who pay to shop at our clubs. Clubs are messy, and checkout lines are longer. Not everyone will use self checkouts. Members say I pay to shop here and I'm not going to check myself out. So when you limit your "good customer service" a business will suffer. If the company is looking to close more clubs, then they should at least make the clubs they keep open to have enough help to serve the members the right way. None of us know what the agenda is for all the changes and we don't know what is ahead for Sam's club. People quitting who truly cared about the quality of their work and making their club the best it can be will now be replaced with people who really don't care about that only the money they will make. They will not stay and the turn over will be constant. For the long term associates who stay sooner or later they will realize it' a sinking ship and bail out. The company is and will continue to loose really good associates and will feel the impact with loss of sales. When a company fails it's associates and customers the end will come.

What?! 51 associates??? Wow. We haven't really lost people. I'm not saying that associates are dancing with joy in the aisles but nobody appears to be more miserable than usual. People's schedules are consistent but because of block schedules there's no consistent coverage so we often have various front end departments scheduled for 6hours by themselves.

After being told we had set hours of 6-2:30 management is now going in and changing it. I now have at least 1 to 2 closings a week wtf. I love how they can twist and manipulate what home office says. Come Monday calling the higher ups this is BS.

Small exodus? Most of 3rd shift left - they worked those hours for a reason - to work around college, or having to take care of kids or parents, or even second jobs because $11 an hour doesn't cut it.... All but one of the talented, fast, and knowledgeable lift drivers with years of experience went too. I'm sure Christmas will stress the one that is left to the point of leaving as well. :(

It's horrible. And not sure what the agreement was with what work the overnighters would be doing. Apparently our-nighters don't think helping out on the sales floor with members and other associates is part of their job. I guess the problem lies on management. It seems as if the associates have no voice since management does whatever they want with the associates. Respect for the individual and acting with integrity no longer applies to management.

The lies, mostly about days off, but forcing people to come in at 4:30am for no good reason. When it’s time to open the door for members, they stink. Not their fault. Can’t sweat, doing manual labor for hours, and not stink. Members notice. I notice. Can’t be the same isle as some of them.

It wasn't so much the schedule, But all the damn lies. So many people were lied to about shifts and where they would work. Also making up jobs for certain people.
