Get rid of the union's, they are absolutely worthless and only protect the ones who stay in trouble and the lazy

I like coming back to this site and seeing what the new conversations are about. I was let go from the COB yard, seen it coming, however had a plan. We all had began, (started) with this company with are heads high and proud to work for them. I can say the best thing I did was took a month off and applied on a Sunday and had three calls Monday. UP is no longer that place to be proud to work for, move on, I had no problem finding a job that pays equal to this company; but wait I don't pay union, RRT2, so I make more just by the loss of that. When this is all done a few years from now, people will look back and remember the days it was the company to work for, but for now it is the worst. Should make all you lazy @$$ workers out there that had been with them longer than 15 years happy. Seen a lot of good people go, but keep the ones that ride that seat and turn the air test cart into a leaning post for 8 hours. Pay then 33.58$= 3700+- 300 a month. Now 50 HR a Wk 1590$ take home do the math. Use the skills you have and find another a job the works for you nor share holders.

Man, the RR unions are so strong. I love paying $80 a month for no reason.

I wonder if the class 1 railroads kinda have a union amongst themselves to look out for the interest of the company and it’s investors. I wonder if the railroads have lobbyists in Washington DC with large sums of money to buy politicians to look out for their interests? I think at the very least workers should be able to come together to look out for the interest of his or her particular craft! If you think you as an individual will come out on the winning end going against that type of power and influence then you deserve that $15 an hour job that the local Chamber of Commerce (business union) decided was a fair going wage for you to earn.

@vgy nailed it. As a manager I was basically UP property. Besides the standard railroad BS of being woken up in the middle of the night and told to drive to a pile of dirt 200 miles away because there's no MBM on the territory, I was also made to perform a whole range of tasks that had nothing to do with my job description, worked 60+ hour weeks (including 24 hour shifts), and got $0.00 in overtime pay. The salary for the actual hours worked came out to less than $20.00/hr most of the time.

People can say what they want about unions, but they at least protect their members from the worst of the abuses perpetrated by UP upper management. If anyone wants a preview of what a post-union railroad looks like, look no further than your first-line manager.

Pro tip for anyone thinking of signing up for the OMT program: don't.

Nice try troll. I’d rather have unions and rights than work 25 nights in a row like the local manager lol. Oh and he’s on salary lmao. Making $13 an hour. And he hates his job. And his wife is talking divorce. And he’s only 25.
