I was wondering if people can explain salary problems within Cisco to me. I don't see it. I'm in my mid 20s. Graduated college, spent a year at Google where I got a patent, then switched to FB for two years. Left after two years due to the bad rap the company was getting due to privacy and used the transition to join Cisco out in RTP. Received and accepted a base offer of 185k. Only been at the company a few months so no stock yet. My point is not bragging but Cisco has treated me very fair. Nice salary low cost of living. I've always wanted to work at Apple so I don't see myself having a long career at Cisco but I do see myself mastering the skills Apple looks for at Cisco. If you don't like your salary don't complain do something about it.

I am in SJ cisco making 420K per year. Half of that is equity. Other half is smoke.
I am 24 with 3 years experience in Cisco and was hired at $237k base salary. Based in SJ as a software engineer.

I actually agree with the original poster on this. I myself born and raised in NC. Went to college in NC. While in college I got an internship at Microsoft that luckily turned into a full time job as a software engineer upon graduation. Starting salary was 90k base. Spent 6 great years there before I resigned when I was asked to move to Redmond, WA to be at the corporate HQ but I didn't want to. Final salary at Microsoft was 148k as a mid-level software engineer. Applied to and got hired in Cisco in NC at 165k. I turn 30 next year. The reason I agree with the original poster is Microsoft's starting pay is lower than Google and Facebook. I wouldn't knock someone unless you walk in their shoes.
I think you put a "1" in front of your base salary by mistake. Please revise accordingly.
The younger people in RTP are merely bodies. Paid the bare minimum to recruit recent graduates, and provided busy work assignments until they depart.
Definitely a Troll - would have to be a very high grade to be making that salary in RTP. Cisco promotes slowly and doesn't hire young people for large sums of money. Cisco hires young people to save themselves money and does so at the lowest grade possible.

Yup, this sounds like a troll. With your YOE and location (RTP), that base salary is way off. Only explanation is that you are a senior director or VP at age 25!?!?
