Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

UP is losing its talent

Where did the talent go? Is there any talent left? Will they be hiring any new talent? Was there ever really any talent, just wondering.

North Platte shoe changers have a pretty good talent of swallowing my high ball. Carl taught me how it’s done.

Really how many more of these posts do we need? At this point everyone knows UP is a joke and nobody with options would go there after college. It’s a traveling circus. The people still there are either close to retirement, considering their options to leave, or have no options. I’ve personally known people considering UP and I told them the real deal and they were quickly like screw that. Enough people have left UP and spread the word that its reputation is trash forever.

Read a statement above, you are 100% accurate about the Unions, but you also have them individuals out there that know that they are union and will do as little as possible, work 1hr, set on A$$ for 7, I'm union and been here 15 years. I have seen this, its people like this is why a lot of good people went home.

UP has neither the willingness nor the ability to attract, recruit, or retain corporate talent. There are a number of reasons for this.

There is no concept of a work-life balance at UP. Their expectation from the first day on the job is that every aspect of the employees lives are to be surrendered to the operating goals of upper management. In exchange for subordinating your existence to them, they offer an average salary by private sector standards (below average for lower management positions), no sick days, and minimal vacation time. The benefits are nothing to celebrate either.

There is a real issue at every level of the company of nepotism, and people being placed in positions that they either aren't qualified for, or who have qualifications that don't match the job requirements. In no other organization will you observe this to the extent that you will at UP.

At the agreement level, the unions have all but guaranteed that the worst performing workers can't be dismissed, good (qualified) workers can't be hired, and the best performers can't be rewarded.

The combination of a heavily distorted workforce, unqualified/incompetent management, a high-stress 24/7/365 environment, and average pay with minimal time off makes it difficult to attract, recruit, or retain corporate talent.

Gone and never coming back. UP is a third tier toilet.
