Citibank Hagerstown MD Dishonest dealings and unfair practices

Today, 5/22/2019, Citibank in Hagerstown MD held a meeting to inform all employees that if they qualify, they must work from home.

Citibank Leadership made it clear that the employee has no choice but to work from home and they will not offer any compensation for electricity, internet or office furniture. They will not even allow employees to take an office chair home. The employee is expected to pay all the expenses needed so that Citibank can cut cost. My opinion is the employee is required to take on all the expenses of running a Citibank office in their home so that the CEO of Citibank can get an even bigger bonus than last year.

It is dishonest and taking advantage of their employees by refusing any compensation to cover employees expenses required while working from home. Citibank had to pay these expenses in their office buildings and should have to pay the expenses and not expect the employee to pay out of pocket for the electricity, internet, heat, air conditioning and all expenses necessary.

Last year when all the major banks were giving thousands of dollars in bonuses to all their employees, our CEO chose not to give the employee bonuses but instead chose to take tens of millions of dollars in bonuses for himself.

Today, Citibank CEO has shown he will reach into his own employees pockets and take whatever he wants to enrich himself. Pure greed!

We were told in today's meeting that work from home is not a choice but a requirement. We were also told that we are not allowed to disagree with this decision. Anyone caught disagreeing on social media will be fired. I disagree with Citibank. Work from home is a choice and Citibank has no right to say it is a requirement. If Citibank cannot afford to compensate employees for the expenses they are going to incur, if they cannot even afford to loan out necessary office furniture, if they cannot afford to lease a building big enough for their employees, then they should be offering severance to all employees who do not want or cannot work from home.

They have made it clear, they are shutting down the site in Hagerstown and opening up a small site that cannot accommodate all the employees. Instead of offering severance for employees who can't or chose not to work from home, they instead made work from home mandatory at the employees expense.

Citibank told the employees that they can deduct the expenses from their taxes. Are we now self employed? This also is dishonest. The way the tax law is right now, most employees would have to have expenses totaling more than $12,000.00 per person in the household before they would ever get a tax break for all the expenses required to run a Citibank office out of their own home.

CITIBANK, I'M CALLING YOU OUT ON YOUR DIRTY DEALINGS! Compensate employees who are required to work from home or offer them severance packages. DO THE RIGHT THING!

Three years later, the small site is gone. More and more employees are on Improvement plans slowly being fired, No severance pay, working from home most employees are disconnected to what’s actually happening… India passed a law where employees working over 5 years have to be payed severance and look what Citi did in India. Their stock is one of the worst of all banks. Metrics are impossible, they increased call volume and work load having employees working multiple partners and switching splits, offering vto to insure everyone is getting back to back calls… the management team are boot lickers who “are just doing their job” not caring about the people they manage just caring about metrics for their bonuses. What they’re doing should be illegal.

I use work for Citi. For the friends I left behind I'm glad you didn't lose your jobs but you all are on borrowed time. I would not count on getting severance because Citi is going to continue to run people out by firing and or making it so unbearable that people leave on their own accord. Citi will force more responsibility for the samw pay and will raise production rates. I lost count of how many of my friends from there are on action plans. It used to be a decent company to work for but not anymore. I was over them when they took nightshift away from the fraud department last year and forced us all to days. My soul died when that happened because the paycut was substantial and it ruined my personal life. There is no integrity whatsoever they are aleays making empty promises. One time we had won an incentive on our team for catering from the cafe. They said we could have a taco bar then refused to do it. But then they gave one to credit and had the audacity to wherel the leftovers to us. Its a toxic environment you work hard all year for a raise and no matter how well you perform you get ranked a 3. They ask reps to perform duties way above pay level such as train. This is a conflict of interest because it puts sane level associates in an authorative role only to be abused and criticized. Management at the Maryland site had a lot to do with running the dite into the ground. Stating names would be pointless because what's done is done.

I worked from home for over 5 years and had little additional expenses. I'd be interested to see the information you got on having to work from home. Quite a few of us were just let go because they are no longer allowing telecommuters. Lies are coming from higher ups.

We were also told if we complained on social media about what citibank is doing that we would be fired. If they cant afford to keep the lights on then they have no right to be in business. We can't move to different departments and there is no chance of advancement. They did away with our differential pay, change your our hours and now this. They told us take it or leave it. They will be changing the rules and trying to force more people out over the next year.Citibank has been caught doing many dishonest things in the last ten years. They fired all the workers who were maxed out or close to maxed out on the amount they could make. Citibank was sued lost the case and had to pay all the employees they fired. They have been caught time and time again cheating their customers. Money laundering for d--g dealers and has had to pay many large fines year after year for all their crimes. Open your eyes because Citibank does not care about the workers. They only care about money.

The root of why you are so upset is because you wanted the severance. Just hang in there and you may get it later. Citi saved face by not letting go of a bunch of employees at once. I see them continuing small lay offs. The alternative is going to the new building.

For the person who quoted the stock price from 2008... How many times did the stock split since then??? Oh yeah.. your 1 share at 200 is now 25 shares. Do the damn math.

Second I see the scum, wh--es and wretches that work there everyday. I honestly hope you all lose your job.

Almost all of you have internet at home already... QUIT COMPLAINING!!!

I'm also upset with Citibank. I work in fraud and they told us that we were going to become super reps and that they were going to give us raises and that never happened. Now I find out they're too cheap to even pay our internet and let me take an office chair home. The rich keep getting richer off the backs of the poor.

If you don’t have the things needed and don’t want to buy them then just mark on the survey that you can’t work from home. It’s not like they are going to come to your house and say yes you can so do it. Just tell them you can’t and leave it at that. Very simple

Clearly you were not in the meeting I was in. If you dont have the accommodations to work from home, then you indicate that on the survey & you will be at the small site. Also all they did was remind folks of the social media policy. People are never happy. First you b--ch because you may lose your job now b--ching because you have one.

Working from home is not mandatory if you can’t then you will go to the new site and everything you mentioned in cost can be written off in taxes. $12000???? What are you buying a desk and a computer chair which a lot of people already have. They are providing a computer if you don’t want to work from home go to the new site.

We will not get a tax break. That is a bunch of bull. My expenses would have to exceed $24,000.00 before I could get any tax break. Even if we did get a tax break, that still does not justify Citibank cheating us by making us pay for our own internet at high speeds. Citibank did say that work from home is mandatory for all who qualify. I don't have a desk or an office chair. I guess I am going to get stuck with going out and buying an office chair. I don't have internet in the room that I would use. I will have to have internet installed in that room at my own expense. I am going to have to spend hundreds of dollars. I am not going to sit in my dining room chair for 8 hours a day. Citibank said if we can't work from home we have to fill out a paper proving why we can't work from home. Citi is hoping a lot of people will quit because their real goal is to shrink the workforce without paying severance and unemployment. They also said, if you don't work from home, you are not going to get your own desk in their new building. You watch and see. They are going to keep tightening the screws to make the workers who are not working from home so miserable that they will quit. They put out a press release saying they were working with people including offering severance packages. That is an outright Citibank lie. To the person who said we are getting tax breaks, you sound just like a Citi PR person spreading lies.

First off be grateful you still have a job. Second we are not forced to work from home but encouraged to make every effort possible to do so. Third most companies that have employees work from home are not going to supply your office furniture and asking them to do so is ridiculous. The furniture at the current site is most likely written into the lease in some way so it doesn’t even belong to Citi. As far as your heating/cooling, electric, & internet...I mean if you have one single room in your house with no access to those then that’s on you. And as far as tax breaks you do not have to be self employed to qualify. Some states do a break based off square footage of your office space and how much you pay for electric, internet, heating, & cooling. Others have a new method they are starting that is a flat rate. So either way you get a tax break for having a home office. Also as far as your severance package, you still have a job so there’s no need for one to be offered. If you refuse to work with them in this change then that’s your choice, but in all reality the job is still there and yours if you want it.

Haha be grateful you have a job still. No on is being forced to go home if you can’t you go work at the new site. If you’re able to work and they’re offering to employ you, you do not deserve a severance package.
