Thread regarding Ford layoffs

How is it to live of your severance until you find a new job?

I imagine it is hard in any case, but how different is it compared to the income you had while working. Job hunting requires a lot of expenses, when do we need to start working if we don’t find a new job and severance is our only income? I would appreciate if people who were in this situation posted their experiences.

Just curious - what type of medical benefits were offered in the severance package?

If you have 8-12 weeks cushion you should be fine. 6 weeks before severance check posted in account Also amounts different as 401k and HSA contributions not taken out. Same for medical you must pay that which company would of deducted or no coverage even though part of your severance package. So you need to have funds on hand to do that before severance check posts to your account.

Do you know your monthly expense spend? Simple math equation will tell you when you burn off the severance lump (after taxes). Hopefully you have savings to spend too?

Good luck - hope you find something soon! There is life outside of Ford!
