We can’t get the work done on time

I’m a yard worker and a lot of people were hit by layoffs at my location. We are operating with the 60% of the capacity than we did before. Even though that’s the case, we’re still faced with the same amount of work and it is expected that we keep up with the same deadlines as before. No work is getting allocated to other locations. We are literally working to the limit of human possibility. On top of all that I hear rumors that we will be struck bay layoffs again, I swear if one more person tes cut, we won't be able to do the work. Any similar situations?

If you are letting a manager pressure you into doing something unsafe or rush you then you are crazy. Why would you risk your life to build a grain train for a company that cares nothing about its employees

I was asked to make a move outside my mechanical circle and I had to stop the line! I was like WTF , but you’ll ftx me for walking by a greasy gasket , all in the name of psr and get those units out of here and hide them somewhere so the numbers don’t work against us!

@OP (and everyone who still works in operations):

The people implementing PSR are doing so knowing very well that you won't be able to complete work. That isn't why they did it.

The function of PSR is to serve as a vehicle for inflating UP stock. At the executive level this is a win-win, because executive compensation packages are tied directly to company stock values, and fund managers can hedge against increasing stock prices.

Whether the work ever gets done, let alone if it gets done according to any reasonable deadline, isn't something that is a high priority for the people who oversee this type of an operation.

What is happening to UP now has parallels to what happened to many American companies during the 1980s, when there were specific investment strategies built around destroying otherwise profitable and decently run companies to maximize financial gains in the near term.

The real question is how far they (the executives) will go with this, or if they even realize what is happening or how they are being used.

Just do your job and follow all the rules, let management worry about the rest. It's not worth stressing about.
