Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

No experience required

When managers are hired, is there a "no experience required" clause somewhere in their contracts? It certainly feels like it lately... Especially considering that experienced and knowledgeable people who've been with Verizon for a while are being ignored in favor of outsiders.

Some years ago I had a supervisor ( ex-Army ) who told us to our face ( COT techs ) that he did not need to know anything about the technology in order to manage us.

A very bad comment on his part and it did not sit well with us techs or other managers that had worked their way up the chain. When ever there were an equipment outage or other issue we only gave him enough information about the problem so that when he went to explain it to upper management he looked like a fool.

Said manager was RIF'd and no one felt bad about it, not even the other managers.

You have to be willing to be on your knees...you'd know from the knee pads provided during orientation day. Laptop-check, paperwork-check, Helmut and jock guard/ strap- check,check.

I've never worked for a publicly traded company that was performance based. Publicly traded companies are relationship based = good ol boy club + kool-aide drinking

That is the way it has always been. You have to be in the ole "boy gal club" to get a promotion. That is the only way to get ahead. It isn't what you know but who you know and how much kool-aide you are willing to drink. If you don't have those criteria than be satisfied with your current job.
