Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Why even bother?

If you are over fifty, why even bother and try to do a decent job? It's not as if it'll matter in the end - nobody is looking at our performance when deciding who'll be laid off, just our age and pay.

Our fate is already decided, it's just a matter of which round we'll be a part of, not if we'll be a part of one.

So I ask again, why even bother?

Yes, I thought that too! People 50-ish let go and we 60-somethings still here. If we cannot get another job, we might stay here as long as we can while putting up with awful conditions, then retire with no package. (I almost hate to post this in case they haven’t thought about it yet.)

I was over 50 when I came here. A different time and place, when senior experiences were valued. I am still here and wonder if they are actually keeping people near retirement age, so they will just leave without a package when they retire. Has anyone else (still here) had this thought?
