Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Is anybody still giving it their all?

You know - going out of your way to do something just to make sure it gets done, putting in extra hours, helping coworkers if they need it?

I know I'm not. I gave up on doing my best for Verizon a long time ago, when they stopped treating us as valuable assets and started treating us as expandable commodities.

Is anybody still actually really trying to make a difference?

Spot on. We were supposed to eliminate unneeded work. Now we just do ppt’s to justify our VP and SVP job

Such a waste and sad

I'm still trying to do a good job, but I'm not working as hard as I had been in the past. That's mainly because I had been one of those id--ts working a lot of unpaid overtime trying to keep up with the flood of work. And of course, the reward you get for doing that is having even more c-ap dumped on you. Now, I'm doing my best, but new work comes in faster than we can get it out. And the incompetent management doesn't care, just wants more and more out of you. The backlog is ever growing and at some point something is going to break. Welcome to 2.0.

No matter what job I have I always work as if I'm working for God because He has the ultimate and final say so. I will continue to not only give it my all and try and be the reason but I want to courage others to do so because God is always watching. Wash your hands and say your prayers because Jesus and germs are everywhere.

The executive responsible for Aol/Yahoo received a $60 million severance package. All of his initiatives failed. How could anyone put in extra hours or effort when performance is not rewarded at Verizon?

Basking Ridge feels like 1970s Soviet Union.

If you no longer want to labor for a living become a foreman.

I am being paid a fair salary, so I (and my co-workers), continue to do all that is asked.

If you don't want to be here, don't say here with a chip on your shoulder, leave for whatever greener pasture you believe to be out there, the one you believe needs you.

I'm actually thriving in this environment. The people I work with are cool. We get a lot done together, which really is unique nowadays. I do see some worked to obscene levels. Unhealthy stuff for dumb--s reasons and presentations that will not matter at all, in two weeks when it is replaced with another. Hans, where are you? Is there any reason behind all of the meetings? I know you can't be about this, cause this thing ain't your thing. When do we start taking some action rather than talking alot about presenting about it?

Personally, I'm taking care of my workload. If you compromise your work ethic, you've got nothing left.

That's my only worry. I've barely do anything or go into the office, that it will be a major shock when I start a new job.

You must be working in FP&A in Basking Ridge. Don't complain everyone there is almost in vacation mode all the time.

I'm a GM in Virginia. I don't do any work. I just sit in the back all day and relegate all my work to the SM's. I just sit on my phone and pretend to look busy. Maybe look for a reason to coach or write someone up occasionally when I'm not on spark.

The ones who were giving it their all are long gone. Winners don't like working for losers and Verizon is a huge loser right now. The good ones have left for greener pastures.
