After spending all night reading all the comments and complaints, he decided to accept another offer that was a little bit longer commute but no day-to-day drama with constant rumors of layoffs. He thanked me and said he would have been miserable had he started work at a place as toxic as this.

I was offered a job at BNYM last month. I kept them waiting two weeks while I interviewed at 3 other places. The HR id--t gave me an attitude about taking too long to accept the job offer. I cheerfully declined the sh--ty offer on the day I got an offer from the company I really wanted to work at and then the HR guy wanted to know why and where I was going.
Pffffft. They can lay you off at anytime for any reason. I owed them nothing and glad I kept them waiting.
This place is horrible
Jeez, people. You really know how to ruin my holiday weekend.

EVERYONE at BNYM is looking for another job. From the top to the bottom, no one is happy. They control you with fear of losing your job on a daily basis and they can't even replace the positions from natural attrition and people leaving for better jobs elsewhere.
You couldn't pay me enough to stay here. I've got 3 second round interviews lined up over next two weeks and look forward to leaving this hellhole. My boss was laid off in January and they can't even find someone to put in the role temporarily. Its a total sh-- show. When I leave it will just get worse for the folks left to split up the work.
Fake
This never happened
Good people are leaving.
Voluntarily, and BNY is trying to fill their position.
Laid off, then BNY realizes they have created a gap and is trying to fill the position.
Either way, this is not the sort of place you’d ever want to work, doing anything.
You are a good friend, to warn about BNY. When people ask if there are openings where I work, I tell them they are too good to need a job here, try anywhere but here.
Good luck to us all!
@ bff, can he get me one too?
Yeah, very accurate depiction of the experience at bnym. It’s a comedy of errors every day I go to work. It’s taxing and not really worth it in the long run. My stay here has almost run its course. Planning to hit 3 years in order to fully vest in the 401k, then find a more stable environment. The countdown has already begun...
They hire you, burn you out, and drain you for a few years until you are a shell of your former self.
You will waste away using outdated technology since our company never updates any of its software which means you will need to plan on catching up on technical advancements for the number of years you're employed here before you take another job elsewhere.
If you remain after a few years, whatever is left of your carcass will be picked at by vultures daily trying to ensure their own survival.
Wise move by your friend.
he also wanted to know why they were hiring if they were also doing layoffs. I said because that is just how it is here. You are on eggshells constantly worrying about losing your job.
He is going to try to get me a job at his new company once he gets settled.
