Mid-year Performance reviews

Has anyone received the Mid-year performance review mandate yet? I haven’t seen any emails about it. Is it too early?

Performance reviews are a joke. Don’t worry or waste your time, if you have the “age “, “years of service”, and “salary”, the rating won’t matter, you are most likely on the short list for the white envelope. Your manager can not and will not save you, sorry. If you are laid off you will feel like it is the end of your life but collect every cent you can from BNYM take the Right Mgmt program and enjoy the time off. Don’t look behind just ahead with the promise of new opportunities, that is what I’m doing. Smile and enjoy yourself!

I got a B.E. after 18 years of excellent performance -- including bonuses other recognition. Worked overtime and weekends on a regular basis. My manager wheedled, squirmed, and looked the other way during the EOY review. I wasn't even rated against my goals (I made all of them). Manager tells me 'this won't happen again'. Yeah, right. You just tell me you have no control over the review, but assure me you DO have control over the next one? Priceless.

Managers have become like Kapos in German WW2 concentration camps -- they put others in the oven to save their own skin. (I feel badly for them. I really do.)

What a kick in the d##k.

Yes: heard they just got the “prepare for mid-year reviews” email, and QUOTAS are the same.

Maybe performance reviews will disappear just like the customer feedback button. We'll just all get rated BE and unlucky people will have names pulled from a hat to see who has to remain while whoever's name isn't pulled gets a sub package and early dismissal.

A QUOTA is assigned to a top manager, which gets divided among mid-managers.

Mid-managers assign to line managers, who provide names.

Thats where the torture and drama happens, because line managers really hate to assign BE to any of the people still here and stressed doing work after the layoffs. Some managers threaten to leave, or give themselves up as BE in protest. No manager ever talks about that, so their heroism is never acknowledged.

Surprise! The problem is the QUOTA imposed by BNY, not the managers.

So how is it REALLY decided as to who gets BE ratings?

Upward feedback will only availabe closer to year end which simply means that Management is hiding. The mid year process will start mid June and surprise surprise you get some Charlie goals in there which weren’t available in Feb/March. Yes all need to adhere to high performance culture but our CEO apparently can determine golas at a later stage. This whole process will all be fake # forced ratings # fear management

I just told them to shove their mid year review where the sun don't shine. I got a new job!

Nothing yet. Maybe they laid off all of the BEs (as well as the best workers ever, some of whom post on this board). That leaves “achieves” and despicable managers to clean up the mess, and maybe some of them will BE at cleaning up messes. Time will tell.
