In order for a CEO to get bonuses she/he is required to make money, opps, sorry PROFIT! Well NOT REALLY, show an ATTEMPT to increase profit. So long as you can prove in a class room, oh, sorry I digress again, boardroom, your logic SHOULD make money, dang it, again, PROFIT, you get a bonus. So when you are starting with a company running close to the bone you have to get inventive. When your at the bone when you start carving you HAVE TO make it LOOK real good or the investors will see just how thin the bone is getting.

Just $.02 from the cheap seats, well NOT so cheap, it comes with a liberal arts business degree (oh yeah, they fired me a long time ago, shortly there after MY department disappeared, sorry again, became OUTSOURCED).

Let’s all write letters to Marvin. Then he’ll spend all of his time answering them; he’ll have no time for silliness like what we’ve experienced.

lol...marvin didnt respond. probably some PR person did. and even if this was HIM...its the same generic canned response he has given ten thousands times. all nice sounding platitudes...no substance behind it. curious that in his response he didn't let everyone know that one of the key ways they're going about meeting the customers needs is severely reducing payroll, eliminating positions, and DAILY creating an environment of fear and intimidation. imagine my shock that you cant get people to model helpfulness and kindness to the customers when you daily beat them down and threaten to take their livelihood away from them. if you want employees to do better for the customer, you have to first do better by your employees. like it or not a happy employee will be much more likely to go the extra mile consistently, vs the employee who has been constantly mentally abused or exhausted. Surprised marvin doesnt already know this since he came from that christian ministry family and professes to be a christian and all......modeling Christ much Marvin??

Id like to hear about this guys trip to the grocery store. I imagine it would go like this. " I saw a clerk seemingly doing nothing and instead of asking for help to get my desired cereal I found where they hid a broom. I then used it as leverage to knock the back row down so I could reach it. Clearly this required two people standing on top of each other to reach it but I managed myself." In all seriousness the service could be a lot better.

As a shareholder, I cant say Im a fan of the current CEO, however, he did offer a response and it is only fair to include it on this thread. Please do not slam me, I do not take a position on content. I just think if we are going to post journalistic prose we must present both sides as offered.

Marvin needs to remember there are no registers at corporate; the next round of cuts need to be at the HQ. Let’s start with the execessive “executive” salaries.

@ZgOcRJB-rhm the letter doesnt make the company or Marvin look good. It was constructive criticism. The writer isnt going to end the piece by telling Marvin he s---s and is bad for the company. All that does is destroy any chance at the letter having an impact.

The problems didn't start with Marvin. He inherited a c-appy company that had already been in the process of failing. Problem is, he tried to make easy expense cuts for short term gain. If he actually focused on operations he would have caught the cost issue with inventory and saved a lot more than the cuts got him.

You cant start cutting until you take a hard look at operations.

Laptop party - probably wanted a break for the corporate campus; I know let’s go slumming at a nearby Lowes, probably on a Friday close to home do they can get the weekend started early! Woo hoo!

The execs at Lowe’s corporate are getting rich off the backs of the hard working store associates.

I’m sure the op ed news dude who says he’s a high school marketing teacher gets every weekend off.

Marvin too.

I’m also sure neither knows what a waste of time it is to try to keep up with the workload at Lowe’s.

It all started when they fired ASMs for no reason, condensed positions, and got rid of dept managers. Ever since the company has been awful. The service manager position is basically an hourly asm position and the company put all these untrained ex DMs on the floor with zero preparation. Store spiraled out if control after that and many are still trying to recover.

Correct - no one cares, at all. Ive spoken to everyone from my dept mngr on up multiple times, then emails, then calls, and even face to faces with brass. They simply dont give a single f**k.

Get a lawyer, document everything, then collect as big a paycheck as they are. At least you have moral justification, they have nothing.

But if you report clear OSHA violations (customers climbing racks and treated you violently,, employees stealing or not following policy for class A violations, clear managerial insubordination, etc) and document these correspondences, you have a lawsuit.

It IS, with all reasonable doubt, a hostile and toxic work environment. Employees are quitting in DROVES. I will too @ 1st chance.

In this economy with ample, good-paying jobs, Lowe's doesnt deserve anyone. Leave asap, with the same amount notice they give you when they find a way to fire you. None.

Piling on? I can do that. I recently went by a Lowe’s to buy some screws and some top soil. That trip took me through almost every department. I passed perhaps 7 employees during the visit. No one offered help. While I was in the screw aisle I was approached by an employee who said they were closing the aisle and I would need to move. Outside in lawn and garden no one was available to help me load up so I did it myself.

It took me 15 minutes to check out. When my turn came, the cashier moved every bag on the flat cart stating that thieves hide merchandise that way.

I understand he was doing his job, but Lowes could prevent this final insult in many ways.

Being helpful in the aisles is one. If someone had been able to help me load the topsoil and push it out the cashier could have been faster to get to me and the others. Post load after paying would be nice (like buy online and pick up out front). Just a thought but, if I pay online and a upc is added to my smartphone, couldn’t an associate out front scan it with a mobile device, help me load and thereby speed up all the processes? But I’m just a DIY customer. Sorry was a diy customer.
