the OP is an 1diot !

first off, why don't you cut & paste the position you are speaking of? the job description is in the listing ! all posts that are union positions clearly state it. you're best off resigning.

Yes, VzB is hiring Technicians and these new jobs are NOT being posted internally first.

There are wireline technicians in every single state, they are former MCI/Verizon business/XO communications. They support Ethernet services and fiber for cell phone towers. Some are union, depending on the state, but not all. This is a growing area of Wireline, as they build out fiber for 5G.

You’ll be required to have at minimum an associate degree or veteran status to get one of these positions.

I’m sure wherever you saw the job opening posted would show what qualifications are needed and what the nature of the work entailed.

Good job if you can get it. Take all the schools you can get, especially anything that deals with fiber transport.

@ZhaWrCi-xbu -- seniority is a fact of life in Union shops. I was once at the bottom and now am at the top. Having a procedure that determines vacation selections and shift selections is far better than the concept of 'to be fair, we rotate shifts every two weeks'. Nothing fair about that at all as 'fair' is different for everyone.

I worked a non-union shop years ago that had the 'to be fair to everyone' concept...the schedule was two weeks of days, one week of evenings, one week of midnights. No one was happy and there were constant shift change request. Once we went to shift selections based on seniority every one was much happier, including management.

It will probably be in the network operations group, chances are it is a field operations tech, almost sure a union job, you will be placed in the bottom of seniority, last to pick vacations spots, firts to be bumped in case of surplus....but on the other hand very stable pos, better benefits and a heck of lot of job security....no layoffs in these groups.
