Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

1 Man Train Crews

All road jobs where PTC is operational will now be Engineer only per Omaha, ASAP. Contract negotiations will not hinder implementation. Pay for said crew members will be it's focus. Immediate goal of 20/20 is cut TE&Y by 40%. Many road engineers will be forced back into conductor service for the foreseeable future after fallout. Prepare now.

Wow, does ignorance increase under stress so readily that all of you former co--workers suddenly think that throwing digs at each other rather than uniting increases your ability to wake the hell up and recognize ALL the jobs are going to disappear?? They might be increasing layoffs with a game of DUCK DUCK GOOSE.. but that's just the desperate grasp of broken pride that will soon be humbled or homeless. Technology helps as well as hurts us and robojobs are the future for many human filled positions. Transportation positions such as conductors, engineers, and truck drivers are just the surface of a new way of life. We created this and we will adapt to the change rather than surrender because we are better and we will persevere...IF WE STOP KICKING OUR EQUALS WHILE THEY ARE DOWN. That being said, I'm embarrassed with some of you! Pull up your britches and give your neighbor a hand up, rather than push him down. Be respectable to each other and stop acting like bullies!

I laughed out loud about being giddy as other people pain. At least we have skills relevant to other companies instead of one that is dying off as railroads cut manpower

Yeah. Who's ever seen the UP violate the contract. I'm positive they're very worried about a few guys who can't retire. They want to but can't. The UP will take a dump on all of us.

The country is about to see UP for what it really is and it ain’t no big family or none of that b.s. as much as Lance hates Trump he better hope a liberal democrat doesn’t win 2020. He’s getting away with murder now.

@1prc:

Your values are irrevelant. Market forces don't care if you can't deal with technological change. Adapt or become extinct. That goes for everyone.

I guess there's a strike coming. There's a crew consist agreement until the last pre-1985 te&y retires. UP will do what they want but they will be violating the contract. I could see them negotiating something in to the new contract but until then they legally have to keep the crew consist agreement they signed in 1984.

It's been determined to a certain degree to live through the culling it's best to have a seniority date of 2004 or before. Hopefully us 2008 conductors will survive too. A lot of people hired in 2008. Hopefully some of us make it.

Elections have consequences. Our families must now bare the future of our ignorance and lack of education.

You can be both conservative (against excessive government spending, against government intrusion on individual rights, and for traditional values) AND be opposed to excessive automation. Society is based on humans - putting humans out of work and allowing robotics, AI, and other tech to replace us is NOT consistent with traditional values.

Good. It'll be one less messy slob to have to clean up after.

I would resign my conductor seniority today and go be a limo driver if I could watch Lance and his clowns try to work in the yard for one full shift and build a train. Assuming they survived the whole shift. I got a feeling once they got in the heat they’d forget about courage to care and instead have the courage to blind shove. Probably derail a bunch of hazmat.

Plenty of non-agreement are conservative as well. The smart ones anyway.

So what?

If technology does the jobs better, safer, and cheaper, that isn't a bad thing; that's capitalism and the market working.

I thought all of you "conservative" agreement-types were supposed to be all-about capitalism and free markets? Or is that only when you get to use both as sticks to beat people you don't like?

When they get rid of conductors guess what they’ll be getting rid of a lot of managers, timekeepers,CMS,HR people,,ETC. So for those of you who are giddy on other people’s pain and loss just remember you may be next.

I heard when its a 2 man train crew the conductor and the engineer hook up with eachother, it must be true what they say, it gets lonely out on the road.
