Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Diversity thread deleted

Looks like the layoff police didn’t like the thread about that diversity email.... looks like it struck a nerve and they deleted!

Diversity in a workforce can be a very valuable resource. Diversity can bring input from many perspectives, enrich the depth and breadth of experience and add complexity of insight into decision making. But organizations should be careful to ensure their programs are truly adding value when acting in the name of diversity. Quotas often exist and may even serve a purpose; but let us aim to endorse those best suited for the role from within our ranks and when the diversity candidate is not truly and honestly the right person for the role at that time; then let us delay their appointment while we train and grow them professionally so that our organization may be best served now. They can continue to grow in capability and one day rise to the occasion if their promise bears out. We must not ride the wave of political correctness when faced with the flood of social pressures toward diversity without first offering our opportunities to those who have waded through the rough waters in service of our company. To be the best organization we can be we must promote on ability, performance, intelligence, knowledge, judgement, talent, service and preparedness (among others). Diversity can add discernment, meaning and value but it must not negate an organization’s desire to be the best we can be for all we serve and it should never be allowed to distort the rewards earned in just accomplishment among our employees.

It’s the snowball effect. Hire inept people into positions that promote more of the same ineptitude, you end up with a company that’s runaway with ineffectiveness and rampant destructive results.

Chevron has a long history of caving in to the politically correct diversity police. It is hard to imagine that singling out the "best and the brightest" has been a consideration with the diversity hiring and promotion that has taken place over the past 10 year or more. The rush to be a leader in employment diversity statistics at any cost has proven to be far more important to this company than merit based diversity hiring and promotion.

I have witnessed plenty of PC hiring and promotion in Chevron Pipeline over the years. It is particularly disgusting when you see the long term track record of the individuals that have been singled out when they have been way in over their heads from day one.

The company messaging and actions are fu@ked up for the simple reason that no one at the top understands what the word “diversity” means or how to properly integrate that subjective topic into its daily operations and culture. It’s like Chevron has received a mandate handed down to them by a court or the government to implement “diversity” by a certain ratio and timeframe. And now the company is with backs up against the wall and the clock is running out of time. I can’t think of any other reason for the mad push, the wrong messaging and the terrible results in employee hiring and placement. It must be that Chevron has been ordered to meet a deadline and the id--ts in charge are all a bunch of people who just don’t understand how to make it work to get the best outcome.

Well at least we now know for a fact that the company has a hierarchical rating for Diversity. The email literally had it written in plain English. The trifecta. And not only that the email was s-xist. Since when did subjective qualities like ‘beautiful’ become a category at Chevron? We can now presume rather than assume that D&I is not about inclusion at all. It’s one thing to celebrate Diversity but it’s quite another when the company confirms, in writing, some Diversity is more valued than another. Somebody needs to proof read those emails before hitting send.

If the company came out and said "we are going to hire the best and brightness scientists and engineers to outperform our competition" I would buy my stock back. Within that set of employees they can celebrate whatever they want, but that is not what the company is doing.

I am pretty surprised about that. It was very innocuous and no names were mentioned. Scary thought to think of policing language...it's the kind of stuff that poster in the thread warned about with authoritarian rule.
