More Trailers/Yard Expansion—Game Over? Hit Send?

Just got 4 more trailers (with liftgates) and 4 more tractors in. Major expansion of our lot set to break ground soon for more room to park new tractors/trailers. Just hired 8 more drivers. Should I hit send now? Is it game over?

So....new drivers are also material handlers. That’s why they can’t retain help. The new hires are often stuck in the branch picking orders, not driving, so they quit. There are 6 pick lines at WC and they are not at capacity because they are short staffed.

They got new trucks and soon drivers will be trained to drive double trailers. Ever see one of these deliver to a store? Haha!

May want to hit send about now? Game is over!

The bottom line is...people need to wrap their heads around the fact dsd is ending!

Ask yourself if there is one other organization actually investing in DSD?? No, and for good reason. It is too expensive. Yes there is an advantage but it’s not cost effective anymore! Margins are too small for retailers!

Now look at all the changes.

Put 2 and 2 together. When, well is sure seems it will happen soon since we see more and more going on!!

Cannot actually believe there are some that cannot see what is coming at them!!!

She’s gonna be the scapegoat! Watch and see! She will announce the exit of dsd. How they fly! They have planned for years but will continue the charade and pretend like it’s a new idea.

I dont think they are concerned about the new VP not having DSD experience.. Remember, in the who scheme of Mondelez , DSD is a relatively small portion of the business.. There is life outside the U.S. of A...

How did you manage to operate 8 drivers short? Why not just claim all the new drivers and equipment is to cover Tate's.

Our new supply chain VP is coming from many years at Mars and most recently she was at Kimberly Clark. Looks like no experience with DSD. Makes me wonder.

How many MDLZ controlled warehouses do you think it would take to support a non DSD business in the U.S. Im thinking 6 and we already have 5 RDCs. So I dont think they are expanding current branches to support a DSD exit.

The branch expansions is the exact model for warehouse. Do you honestly think a few mega DC’s strategically placed close to retailer’s warehouses is a move to support DSD? This transition has been occurring for more than two years. It was the hope at one time we would be bought, they wanted the transition well under way because nobody would invest in a company with the expense of dsd still ongoing. Unfortunately nobody made any offers!

How is it you cannot see what is coming? All the red flags, not to mention so many that has been overlooked. The whole easy shift and picture taking! Unimaginable that people honestly believe the “new dsd” bs!

I agree DSD will end at some point. But the world as we know it today will end as well. Question is, when?

You don’t seem to get the point! You sound like a broken record,”dsd is a competitive advantage”! Who cares! The advantage is for Mondelez, paid for by retailers! Not happening anymore. Yep, two years ago plenty of us predicted an exit for dsd, and I still stand by that. All that bs about the “new dsd” is such a far fetched storyline!! Sorry. In those two years we have watched dsd being transitioned to warehouse right before your eyes, your just too stupid to see it! Hahahahaha! Your in a for a big shock! When they are ready to tell us, we will find out.

Them I’m gonna say,”told your a$$ so” 🤣🤣

Dsd is a competitive advantage!! We're not going anywhere!! Lot's of fake news on this site. My job would've ended 2 years ago if I listened to these jokers on here 😆

Im not trying to convince anyone of anything. However, MDLZ doesnt need more Warehouses if DSD is eliminated so why build them? Why invest in new conveyors as they are used in DSD not warehouse?

It’s a warehouse investment, not dsd! That’s the point! U think in a warehouse model all the above isn’t necessary? Wrong! Exactly why they expanded the yard....accommodate retailers trucks! These are all further signs of an exit people

i work for nestle old kraft pizza person both nestle and kraft invested in newer trucks, clothing ,product lines etc. within a year they were gone or they sold the division. i fully believe the reinvestment that mondelz is making boost the selling price or makes a better excuse to go warehouse. my bosses said the same thing . why would we go warehouse. they are buying new trucks. well the new trucks are probably leased and tax writeoffs .expanding the yard and hiring drivers because they will need them when they start cutting the older drivers. bigger yard for other warehouses companies like walmart meijer spartan they will have room for their trailers.

When I say heavily involved in DSD its his fulltime job managing projects related to DSD.. Consolidating branches, expanding current branches and even building new branches. Investing in new conveyors etc.. just not sure why MDLZ would be investing 80 million dollars this year and next in DSD facilities if the end was inevitable.

There just isn’t anyone “heavily involved in the dsd business”. Of you are a dsd expert, you should probably be working to get some additional training! It’s like being a secretary who would be a “type writer” expert! Who uses type writers anymore? Nobody! There are more efficient ways to work! Dsd is just an outdated method.

No bashing, to each his own in their thinking. Retailers are simply not paying for this service anymore! It’s that simple! Yes dsd is an advantage, so is having sales reps. How many companies use a brokerage service? Too expensive. This decision is no different!

I was firmly in the camp that DSD would end sooner rather than later. However, I spoke again today to a person heavily involved in the DSD business. He said given the amount of money that MDLZ is investing presently and upcoming he feels it isnt going anywhete soon.. let the abuse begin.

Well that’s certainly up to you! Do you want to be proactive about your job search, ahead of dsd ending? Or do you want to keep your head shoved up your a$$, ignore all red flags, and pretend nothing is happening? You decide.

Makes perfect sense that they are expanding, hiring drivers, and further more even training them on triple/doubles! With some depots being used to service retailer warehouses and third party wholesalers, huge depots will be needed! That’s precisely why all the branches have been closing throughout the country the past few years. Unless you think it makes sense for dsd that drivers are going up to 8 hours with these shuttles? That was all temporary, with the price of fuel that would a bad business decision!

I’m looking! Refocused my time! No longer worried or even attempting to hit any objectives, instead networking!! It’s working well!

Whatever you do, is up to you!!
